JJ Jump Starts Totaal

Totaalvoetbal recovered from their opening day defeat by winning 3-0 at home to Reggae Reggae Sauce.

The hosts were dominant from the start as playmaker Johan Juffing headed in from an Edwin Hayter cross.

Totaal were creating chances at will and made it two when Shirsh Vajpayee hit a quality strike from distance.

Despite remaining on top it wasn't until the closing stages that it became 3-0. Pierre van Diemen capping a much improved display with a clever penalty area finish.

The game was to start with a bang as Edwin Hayter continued his impressive start to life as a Totaalvoetbal player by whipping in a super cross which allowed Juffing to direct a header past Reggae-Sauce in goal.

The early pressure was telling on the visitors and the usually composed Eddy Grant caused an uncomfortable moment by panicking in front of his goal, luckily for him Reggae-Sauce was well positioned to save.

Despite this let-off you sensed another goal wouldn't be long in coming. Shirsh Vajpayee was enjoying the space he was afforded in midfield and connected beautifully with a drive but could only hit it straight at the 'keeper.

Vajpayee used this effort as a sighter and it was only three minutes later that he made the visitors pay for their slack marking. Picking up a Miquel Oriol pass form deep he took a touch before striking a low drive past a despairing Reggae-Sauce for 2-0.

Making his debut up front in a change from the opening game was youth product Leo van Deinsen. The youngster didn't look overawed by the occasion and produced some good movement before diving in to send a header on target which needed diverting by the 'keeper.

Reggae Reggae Sauce were hopeful that the interval would change the game but there was a similar pattern to the second-half as they couldn't get a grip on proceedings.

Pierre van Diemen had underperformed badly in the first game of the season but looked much busier tonight. He nearly produced a moment of magic but a lob was inches off being perfect and bounced away off the bar.

The chances kept coming as RRS couldn't get out of their own half. Horacio Metelo ghosted into the area and poked a shot just wide as the side's confidence grew by the minute.

Young Leo van Deinsen would have been disappointed, however, with his next shot which troubled the corner flag more than the goal.

The third goal duly arrived on 80 minutes from Pierre van Diemen. Some clever midfield play from Vajpayee released the forward and he managed to get his toe to it before an on-rushing Reggae-Sauce and watched as it trickled into the net.

This was to be the last meaningful action of the game as the home side left to a standing ovation.

"We have bounced back well." said Meeblind.

"However, just as we didn't get too down over the first game we won't get carried away with this.

"There remain plenty of teams better balanced to challenge this season than ourselves so we really must just prepare game by game."
