Pompey Play Up for Lewis

Portsmouth bounced back from their opening day defeat by getting the better of Northwich Victoria in a 3-0 triumph. Northwich had gone into the game on the back of a creditable draw with the Glory Hornets but were no match for their hosts during this encounter. Thorsten Kahn gave Pompey the lead after 26 minutes and despite Northwich forcing chances themselves they couldn’t find a way back. The second 45 minutes would belong solely to the home side and two late goals sealed the victory. Graham Potts hit a stunning strike from distance before Kahn found the net for his second and his team’s third to secure the three points. Lewis will have been delighted with the response of his team after their opening day reversal while MadMagpie will be keen to take advantage of a home game with a youthful Chelsea to get their season up and running.

Chelsea themselves were defeated at home to Glory Hornets despite creating enough chances to have been more competitive. With an average age of 22 years Chelsea were always going to be up against it with the Glory Hornets also boasting a line-up of two skill bars higher. This was to prove the difference as the finishing of the visitors was by far superior. Collin Smart set the ball rolling by finishing past Nosworthy in the area after 26 minutes. The second-half was fairly even chance wise but as soon as Eliott Malloy had headed in you feared the worst for Chelsea. Dale Lansbury was to fire in from distance to make it 3-0 before a late consolation from Didier Drogba gave the hosts a deserved goal. Jamma will hope to keep his troops in good form for the end of season change while Mucca will be harbouring loftier ambitions following a strong start to the season.

Level on points with the Glory Hornets are wortley afc and London Gunners after the sides battled their way to a 0-0 draw. In truth, though, the point will please wortley more than it will London after the away side had much the better of the encounter and, but for some indifferent finishing, could have won comfortably. The first 45 minutes saw a couple of efforts by the visitors and but for a bad refereeing call they would have gone in ahead; Paolo Kask being denied by a poor offside call. The Gunners created a number of chances in the second-half and were to strike a post but, try as they might, couldn’t find the crucial breakthrough. Josef seemed to sum the game up when he explained he ‘drew, when dominated’ but will surely be proud of his side’s performance. Thegreatlordbags will be pleased to be undefeated after last season’s trials but will want to create more in their next game.

Pretty in pink will be their opponents in wortley’s next game and they suffered a 3-2 reversal at These Charming Men. The hosts did the damage in the first twenty minutes, scoring two goals to put PIP firmly on the back foot. Gregorio Jonay had given them a third minute lead before a stunning Juan-Jose Galiano effort from distance doubled the advantage. The visitors lost some of their discipline in the run-in to half-time with three men receiving yellow cards. They regained their composure for the second 45 minutes and began to give their hosts serious problems. Allan Bound had put them back into the game but a Jordi Rodri free-kick reasserted the hosts when they were looking shaky. Despite a Garth Rossall free-kick finding the net with a minute to go the home side had done enough and claimed their first win of the season. With Grimeslufc slowly finding his feet the clubs fan club ‘Irregulars Firm’ will be hoping they are on the verge of better things.

Wandsworth FC were the leaders after a stunning opening day victory and they maintained their impressive early season form with a good 2-0 win over Alsancak F.C. They received the perfect start with a Freddy Kennedy penalty but the remainder of the half was an even affair. Rowan Atlee and Stephen Julius wasted chances for the visitors as they matched their hosts. The second-half was a more cautious affair and when the second goal arrived through Rick Tuttle the game was over. Kennedy capping a good afternoon by providing the ball which found Tuttle who, in turn, found the net. The win still means LotharIstvan’s side have yet to concede a goal and still sit on top of the division with the hopes of the fans going through the roof. Wienersnitzel will be encouraged by their competitiveness in their opening season and are expected to win more games than not.

Suffering a frustrating evening were The Posh who, despite only conceding one chance in the whole game, lost 1-0 at The Champs. The Champs manager Wylie909 was quick to praise his side for the way they ‘mucked in’ and played ‘as a team’ both key attributes in the defence of their one goal advantage. The lead was given to them by Zachary Doughty who found enough space in the penalty area to beat Tipton with a clinical finish. The culprit for The Posh was Dudley Barrowcliff who couldn’t find his shooting boots all afternoon. The defeat would have disappointed their coach but they will surely pick up positive results if they can improve upon their final third play.
