Viking Land News
Last gasp Vikings earn precious away point.
The Vikings had to battle hard and come from behind 3 times in this game to earn a point away at Mexican Mafia.
The game started with 3 bookings as the harsh ref went card happy. The Mafia then took the lead on 15 minutes with Sherko volleting in Isimarus cross ball. This was to be the only action in a dull first half as the two 3 men midfields seemed happy to pass the ball to each other.
It's fair to say that both teams must have been told to go and play some proper football by the managers at half-time as both teams were much more creative in the second half.
Papakostas got the Vikings level on 46 coolly rounding the keeper after being set free by Irwin. Almandis then fired a 50th minute freekick straight at Sattler in the Mexican Mafia goal. Mexican Mafia were then awarded a penalty on 56 and Vincent Lees in the Vikings goal must have thought he was having dejavu as just as in the last game the opposition keeper came tearing up the pitch to take it. Same result as last time with Lees sent the wrong way and Sattler going back to his own net having given his side the lead again. Sherko then shot wide on 58 as the Mafia looked to close the game out. Clint Bonavia then showed that the Vikings were not for giving up and beautifully lobbed Sattler on 62 to level the game again. the hectic pace then dwindled for a while until Sherko hit a shot straight at Lees on 80 minutes. Kron then must have thought he had won it for Mexican Mafia on 82 as he hit a great volley on 82 to regain the lead for his side. The vikings though have got some resiliancy and came pouring back up field once more, Toursoundis shooting just wide on 86. Delpiano then shot over for Mafia on 89 after a quiet game for him. The Vikings strength of character shone through for all to see as they kept going to the final whistle and were rewarded when Bonavia finished a quick flowing move after being found by the young impressive Gourmas. 3-3 after a breathless second half.
Manager Eaglesrjh was happy enough with an away point saying that there will be plenty of teams leave Sierra Madre with nothing this season. he backed this up by pointing out that he had needed his 2nd consecutive manager of the round performance and 4 players in the team of the round just to get a point!
"This is a tough place to come, and we are happy with a point especially after showing good spirit by coming from behind 3 times! said the boss
