Lions Devour Goals

With Izuka claiming his side would be going for a target of being unbeaten all season his Three Lions FC side produced a wonderful performance in disposing of Goals Aloud 5-0. The game was effectively won in a one-sided opening half which saw the home attack cut through an over-worked visiting rearguard. The first goal came from Cristiano Izuldo with a shot of quality in the area. Zlatan Izuhimovic headed home number two on 38 minutes and another header from John Izu Mikel made it three before the half-time whistle arrived. Izuael Clichy made it two goals in two games with a long range effort to make it 4-0 and the rout was rounded off with a Robin van Izu free-kick after 83 minutes. Goals Aloud did improve as an attacking force in the second 45 but it was Three Lions' day. They finished the day topping the table and will be looked upon as a scalp for future opponents.

Slipping in just behind Three Lions are The Vikings who made it two from two with an immense 3-1 win over Newry City. In the build-up to the game Newry manager Mickeymoose had warned that he would ‘rather have 3 or 4 ranked kids than this shower of ****’ so the players may well have been under some pressure as they stepped onto the field. Kian Dadashi, with this in mind, made the worst possible start as he put through his own net after 24 minutes. The Vikings were proving an irresistible force going forward and Clint Bonavia was soon to make it two, scoring from inside the area after a Damon Strachan pass. The chances thinned out after the break but Tasas Toursounidis kept up his fine early season form with a long range effort. Newry managed a consolation from ‘keeper Dominic Wellens but their display will not have pleased Moose. Eaglesrjh was happy in what was ‘another good win’ and will now seek to prepare his side for a tough looking trip to Mexican Mafia.

Mexican Mafia warmed up for that game with a good point at Tropical Thunder. Both sides finished well in a game that wasn’t big on chances. Lauro Poggi was the first to display his talent for hitting the target with an excellent free-kick which left Sattler helpless in goal. Mafia drew level before suffering a blow to their chances. Shinsouke Isimaru headed in for the equaliser but only eight minutes later star man Demetrio Delpiano went off as a precaution for an injury which Jimmy feared might worsen. Tropical Thunder regained the initiative after the half-time break as Geovany Dainelli hit home from inside the area. A sending-off a minute later quashed their celebrations, though, as defender Valentino Boccaccini was sent from the field. Mexican Mafia took advantage of this as Thunder stopped being an attacking force in the game. Eugene Kameni Idriss was to be the hero for Mafia as he hit his first goal in their colours from a trademark free-kick. Reports coming out of Thunder following the game are that Joejnr will work tirelessly to ‘turn these draws into wins.’ Jimmy was ‘happy with a point’ against what he described as an ‘unpredictable team’.

West Brom Strollers confirmed their status as one of the strongest teams in the section with a 3-0 win over Liverpool. Captain Darren Moore proved an inspiration for the home team as he headed in the opening goal after just three minutes. Jose Fonte suffered a slight knock for Liverpool as they struggled to make any impact on the game. West Brom continued their superiority in the second-half and when Lee Hughes hit home from distance the result wasn’t really in doubt. Cyrille Regis completed the scoring with a fine header to pile on the misery for Buttons’ Liverpool who have yet to hit the net this season. West Brom sit nicely in third following the win and Dinkydave2003 told press that it was a ‘good win.’

Juventus were in fine form as they demolished Kirkbride Strollers 6-2. They were 2-0 ahead before some of the fans had even finished their pre-match pint. Alberto Morante scored the first, in what was to be an outstanding personal display, after five minutes before adding a second a minute later with a header of some quality. Mitsuhiro Sinoda did pull one back against the run of play before the break to give the visitors hope. Morante completed his hat-trick on 70 minutes with a long range effort but Kirkbride showed their spirit once more in hitting straight back; Jordan MacIan scoring from a well-worked free-kick. From then on Juventus assumed control as Mairthin Foley made it 4-2 and an unfortunate Fraser Symington own-goal added another. Jorn Fruh struck from inside the penalty area to finish the rout and give Juventus a massive boost as the season progresses. Kirkbride will be hoping to find their feet as they struggle to make the step up following their promotion last time out.

The game of the day came at Padang MPK as Pahang United played out a 3-3 draw with Manchester United. Holger Pfitzner gave the hosts an early advantage after a clever free-kick fooled the visiting defence. United are made of stern stuff though and Dennis Irwin shot home in the area before Wayne Rooney headed in to turn the game on its head before half-time. Pahang were quickly level in the early stages of the second-half when Otto Andersen found the net from distance. With neither side wanting to settle for a point the game continued to to-and-fro. Rooney netted his second from far out as the shooting remained of the highest class. Pahang weren’t to give in and earned what was, in all probability, a fair point with a Benjamin Johannsen effort which left van der Sar helpless. The point was Pahang’s first of the season but if they are to be involved in such quality match-ups their fans won’t be short-changed. Manchester United remain unbeaten and will prove stern opposition for every other side in the division this season.
