It seems three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and Santos defensive lapses. It was an avid affair at Estádio do Deus, with AFC Stanley pulling off a miraculous comeback to win in a 5-4 thriller. The match was end to end, with both sides opting to play offensively. Santos were sitting on a 2-0 lead at half-time, but the game turned tides when defender Ray Goddard had to be taken off due to injury. The 70th minute period was catastrophic for Santos, allowing a shocking 5 goals within the span of 18 minutes.
At the end of the game, in the team locker room, manager Sean7 was seen throwing a boot at defender Yogender Pragurd, and lambasting the team for their defensive effort. The manager's behaviour had slight shades a certain Alex Ferguson, officials remarked. Coming out of the door, he quickly went to the press table to offer some insight.
“Full credit to AFC Stanley, after the injury, they didn't give up, and showed proper heart to clinch the victory. This will definitely be on MOTW. I thought Afonso, Winnerljung and Alshammar played a blinder. Ribeiro is also developing well.”
Before leaving, Sean had one final piece of insight.
“How the heck are we tied for most goals scored in the league, yet dwell at the bottom of the standings!? Atrocious defending, that’s what. Well, at least the fans got their money’s worth.”
He was last seen driving off speedily into the night. One thing is for sure, Santos will not give up this type of lead again. Many believe that after recent events, Sean7 will re-change his playing philosophy from Arsene Wenger-attacking-football, to Mourinho defensive long-ball. Only time will tell.
