Gunners Fire Four

London Gunners continued their excellent start to the season with a 4-0 win over Portsmouth at Emirates Stadium. Going into the match Josef09 had declared ‘we should win!’ after seeing his side gain only a point in their last match despite dominating. The match never really developed as a contest as the Gunners outclassed their opponents. Petrus Normqvist struck after 10 minutes to give the home side the impetus they needed to produce a display which overwhelmed their visitors. Portsmouth had arrived on the back of a 3-0 win over Northwich last time out but found themselves 2-0 behind following a Dan Parkinson header. The second-half was just as emphatic as London kept flowing forward. Isak Bergendorff scored his second goal of the season from a header and this weakness in the Pompey backline was exploited once more as Morgan Ellis rose highest to head home number four. With London Gunners now sitting in second the manager will want nothing less than promotion while Lewis will need to work on his side’s consistency if they are to work their way up the table.

On seven points with the Gunners are wortley afc who had an entertaining battle with Pretty in pink. PIP were given a boost after three minutes as Allan Bound shot home from inside the area. Confidence is high inside the wortley camp, though, due to their unbeaten start to the season and they pressed the home goal in response to going behind. Two swift goals turned the game on its head as first Walter Willock fired in from a corner and then Quincy Bowey did the same as the home defence struggled to come to terms with Brandon Hiller’s delivery. The second-half saw the game continue in an offensive fashion and Walter Willock was able to extend the lead to 3-1 with a classic forward’s header. Pretty in pink always had the majority of the ball throughout the game but they lacked a cutting edge. They were able to pull one back, however, as Geoffry Stiles headed in a corner but it was to prove too little too late as the visitors travelled home with the three points. With the league starting to take shape wortley will be the happier of the two sides as they sit nicely in third spot while PIP slip to eighth.

The side everyone is chasing remain Wandsworth FC as they recorded a disciplined 2-0 triumph at The Posh. The home side remain somewhat of a mystery as they cannot seem to transform good form off the pitch into points on the pitch. Wandsworth have mastered that particular art and despite giving up territory in the first-half they always looked the side most likely. The goals came later in the game as Rick Tuttle powered in a header from a corner to give the leaders a deserved advantage. Tuttle was, by now, full of confidence and he duly made it 2-0 late on as he struck from distance to make it nine points out of a possible nine while The Posh are yet to register a point or even a goal. LotharIstvan will look for his side to continue their fine start when they travel to These Charming Men, on this form it would be a brave man to back against them.

These Charming Men didn’t prepare very well for that game after being beaten 3-1 at The Champs. Despite competing well and creating only one fewer chance their lack of composure in the final third proved to be the undoing for the visitors. The Champs took the lead on five minutes as Bruce Collinge escaped the attentions of the defence to head in. Much of the first-half was played in the middle of the park with little in the way of chances. The game stretched a little after the interval and an equalising goal for Juan-Jose Galiano meant the home side had to come out and attack the game if they wanted the three points. Attack it they did as Leigh Ellefson despatched a penalty and then Marshall Hammond ran from midfield to meet a Randy Alker cross and make it 3-1. The scale of the defeat was perhaps a little harsh on the visiting team and things won’t get any easier as they face the league leaders. The Champs moved up to fourth on the back of the win and have a chance to move into the promotion places as they meet the side directly above them in wortley afc in Round 4.

Also on six points are Alsancak F.C after they saw off Glory Hornets 2-0 at Mosquito Alley. The game saw ten chances for the home side compared to the visitors solitary one yet with ten minutes to go the game was still all-square. Retaining their faith the hosts refused to panic and were rewarded in the 84th minute when Eliott Burbank finished well in the area. With the visitors resistance now broken you sensed the belief seep out of them and Alsanack capitalised. A penalty was awarded for a clumsy challenge and defender Benedict Janney finished past Rosbotham to give the score a more realistic look. Wienersnitzel felt that the victory was ‘a lot more comfortable than it looked’ but did let on that this week’s training would be focused on ‘our finishing’. Glory Hornets will be looking for more in every area of the field in a match-up with The Posh.

Northwich Victoria were handsome winners over the youthful Chelsea. Taking advantage of the visitors lack of experience Northwich put them to the sword in a breathtaking first-half. As soon as Svein-Are Tveite opened the scoring after six minutes the main question would be how many Victoria would score. Albert Hildre notched a second minutes later and when Erling Rost headed in they were 3-0 up after 12 minutes. Vebjorn Grav found the target from distance after 24 minutes and Tveite added the fifth soon after as Chelsea looked like they didn’t know what had hit them. Amazingly this was to be the end of the scoring as Northwich seemed happy to pass the ball around rather than do any long-term damage to the development of the Chelsea side. The win was a welcome first three points for the hosts while Chelsea expectedly prop up the table and could be there for some time yet.
