AC Milan put a youthful looking Hun Haters to the sword in a 5-0 demolition at the San Siro. Milan dominated possession throughout the game and were sent on their way when Andrea Pirlo beat Boruc in the visiting goal. Victor Moses arrived perfectly to head home their second on 24 minutes and when Humphrey Biehn scored with a long range shot on the half-hour the game was well and truly in Milan’s hands. Biehn scored his second by slotting home a Sean Derry pass as the hosts went in 4-0 up at the interval. In truth Hun Haters had chances themselves but couldn’t find the finishing touch and due to this only served to give Milan even more confidence. Victor Moses finished the rout when on 47 minutes as the home side took their foot off the gas for the remainder of the game. MarkieRich claimed the win showed ‘great bouncebackability’ and will be happy to see his side sit in fourth. Celticchris saw his young side come unstuck but will be excited about what they could become if they progress over the next few seasons.
ThunderCats F.C ran out 3-1 victors over F.C. Greatness but it might have been different if the visitors had taken their chances. Leonardo Borja had gone off injured as the home side suffered a disjointed start to the game. Greatness created more chances in the opening half but went in behind as Fabricio Cidade headed past Rachao. Cidade gave ThunderCats the ideal start to the second-half when he again rose highest to head in the home side’s second goal. The win was all but sealed as Greatness needlessly gave away a penalty and were fully punished as Juliano Leite made it 3-0. Greatness did manage a consolation through Faust Baronchelli but they were well-beaten despite creating two more chances than their hosts. Darren Calvert brushed it off by saying ‘nevermind, it wasn’t like I wasn’t expecting it.’ Meelas will be very satisfied with his sides perfect beginning to the season but will recognise it’s where you finish the campaign that counts.
Hot on the heels of ThunderCats are Yorkshires Amateurs who were 3-1 winners at Tranmere Rovers. Creating a host of chances the Amateurs looked dangerous all game but endured a rocky start to the game. Rex Victory shot home to put Rovers 1-0 ahead and the Amateurs were forced into a substitution thanks to a bad injury to Tiarnach Casey and a minor one to Murray Davis. Showing tremendous character the visitors performed superbly in the second-half to turn the match on its head. Amadeo Caviedes got the away side back on track with a clinical header. By now the Amateurs were dominating possession and it seemed only a matter of time before they made another breakthrough. Gabriel Mohan finally put them in front when a corner fell to him and Hans Riegler was to head home another as Tranmere finally succumbed. Amateurs moved three points clear of Tranmere as a result of the win and sit in second, with Rovers in sixth.
Facing Yorkshires Amateurs next are Marseille and they warmed up with an easy 3-1 win over St Omer. The game had an explosive start as Rodney Shuttlewood put the home side in front only for Michael Radley to head home five minutes later. With the game not showing any signs of tightening up Marseille took advantage by regaining the lead on 13 minutes with defender Cal Beardsley showing good instincts in the opposition area. The hosts dominated both possession and chances following this and put the game beyond Omer when Rodney Shuttlewood hit in a long range shot. The win sees Marseille sit in third with Omer next to bottom and in desperate need of a win to give their season a much needed boost.
Reggae Reggae Sauce made it two wins in their last two games with an exciting 3-2 win over Santos. RRS began strongly and put Santos on the back-foot as Woody Forrest finished a clever free-kick on 15 minutes. Santos doubled their own pain as Patricio Bento put through his own goal to make it 2-0 on 31 minutes as RRS threatened to run away with the game. Santos performed much better in the second-half but still fell 3-0 behind as Derek Acorah shot home from a Jelle Klaasen corner. Santos never let their heads drop and inspirational forward Torbjorn Alshammar nearly rescued the game for them after firing in two free-kicks in the last ten minutes. Unfortunately for Santos it wasn’t to be enough and they remain at the foot of the table. They will need to heed Sean7’s words and ‘step up’ or risk being eaten ‘for breakfast.’ Xpertelevener stated that he was ‘well pleased with the first 80 minutes’ but not so from that point on and had to endure ‘the longest 3 minutes’ he could remember when Santos pulled back to 3-2. He will be happy with fifth spot, though, as his side look upwardly mobile.
The day’s other game saw Totaalvoetbal and AFC Stanley fight out a 0-0 draw at the MVB Arena. Robin Meeblind was quick to point out after the game that Markham had ‘done me’ tactics wise and with this in mind will have been pleased with the point. They still could have nicked it if Pierre van Diemen hadn’t hit the post when being put through on goal. Stanley had their own chances but couldn’t find the net and had to settle for a share of the spoils. Markham said that he was ‘pleased with the result’ after another ‘titanic tussle’ and will be looking for better luck in front of goal against Reggae Reggae Sauce in their next game.
