Slick Rick Boosts Wandsworth

Wandsworth kept alive their 100% record with a comfortable 5-2 victory over The Champs. Going into the game as the standout team of the season they had to settle for a quiet first-half performance which saw them more than held by their opponents. A burst of attacking play at the beginning of the second-half was to prove the difference, though. Rick Tuttle was to be the catalyst as two super headers left The Champs defence stunned and the hosts 2-0 ahead. Seizing on the wave of momentum Samson Heskey finished smartly in the area as the game looked to be settled. Robert Hammevik did respond with a long range shot but when Stevan Mudi headed in on 68 minutes the lead was back at three. The teams shared goals in the last ten minutes as Bruce Collinge for the hosts and Rowley Forrester for The Champs each found their range to net from free-kicks. The result leaves Wandsworth with a perfect eight from eight while The Champs slip to sixth and will look to bounce back against the Glory Hornets next time out.

The Glory Hornets themselves had a tough 1-1 draw with Grey Area with the away side just about edging proceedings. The first-half saw Area produce some good football in fashioning three openings but they couldn’t find a cutting edge which would have seen them go in ahead at the interval. Glory Hornets were struggling for their best stuff and encountered further problems with an injury to Seth Eaves on 49 minutes. Two minutes later and they were behind as Geoffrey Stiles headed in a Julian Dempsey cross for a 1-0 advantage and nothing more than they deserved. The response from the home side was to be excellent, though, and on 57 minutes they were level; Eustace North providing the width and delivering a fine cross for Burt Judd, who had come on as a substitute for the unfortunate Eaves, to head home. Area were to suffer injury problems too as Frederik Smit took a knock which will keep him out for a week or so. Carfin was impressed by the performance and claims his side are ‘improving by the game’ and ‘didn’t deserve to only draw this one.’ The Hornets remain tough to beat and sitting in fourth can be happy with how the season is progressing.

Chelsea have been left managerless while Jamma looks to fund his next VIP experience and they didn’t enjoy their trip to wortley afc and were hammered 6-0. The home side couldn’t have asked for easier opponents and were dominant from the moment Brandon Hiller netted the opener on 11 minutes. Quincy Bowey doubled the lead on 20 minutes with a super long range effort and Hiller pouched his second on 26 minutes from inside the area. The second-half carried on in the same manner with Walter Willock helping himself to a hat-trick. His first was a header a minute after the restart and with a cracking strike from distance he had a brace on 54 minutes. Brandon Hiller was to fluff his lines for a treble with a dreadful penalty but wortley had their sixth when Willock calmly finished his third after being set-up by Alex Jamieson. The triumph has wortley happily placed in second with Chelsea bottom after their eighth loss in eight games.

Portsmouth moved into the last promotion spot by beating The Posh 1-0 at the Stadium. They largely controlled a game that never reached any sort of heights and in keeping with it their front three performed poorly to mean only a narrow victory would be their reward. The goal came early in the match, following a Craig Elliott corner which fell to Marzuki Nugraha who beat Tipton in goal. Four more chances came and went for Pompey but they were never really threatened at the other end and picked up three valuable points which keeps Lewis on target for the promotion he dearly wants. The Posh remain in eleventh and their season continues to be one of underachievement, despite this their fans will still turn out for their next match against These Charming Men.

London Gunners returned to winning ways with a good 2-0 home victory against Northwich Victoria. It was a worthy triumph for the home side as they created many good chances throughout the game and but for a poor display in the forward line-up would surely have won by more. In an opening half where they created five chances the Gunners will have been amazed and annoyed to have gone in at 0-0, a score that will have pleased Victoria albeit not the manner in which it was achieved. The second-half was threatening to be similarly frustrating for the hosts until they finally made the breakthrough with time running out. Dan Parkinson was the hero as he latched onto a Gunvald Fahlgren pass and made no mistake in finishing past Sigurdsen in goal. When a penalty was dispatched in the 89th minute by Petrus Normqvist the relief was tangible around the ground. The defeat sees Victoria start to lose touch with the promotion chasing sides while it will have boosted Josef as his side looks to lock horns at the top end of the table.

These Charming Men won a close encounter against Alsancak F.C by the odd goal in five as they continued to turn their season round. It was a game which saw a very high standard of finishing as fans most definitely got their money’s worth. Strangely, it was an own goal which opened the scoring as Stephen Julius put through his own net to give TCM a 1-0 advantage. In truth, they were worthy of their half-time lead as they had the better of their visitors. The second-half proved to be an altogether different 45, though, as Alsancak turned the game on its head. Kenny Acton was the instigator as he struck from distance on 53 minutes before setting up Deano Elmes in the 67th to put them 2-1 ahead and leave TCM reeling. RDCM has his side well-drilled despite any setbacks they might encounter and they quickly regrouped to level following a good header by Mauricio Capdevila. Urged on by their home support they pushed forward and were rewarded on 88 minutes by a Loran Rajabi effort from distance which secured the win despite Jon Turnball receiving his marching orders in injury-time. The result sees both teams on 13 points and they will definitely be focusing on a promotion tilt with so many teams grouped together.
