Viking Land News
Vikings dominate in front of home fans.
The Vikings dominated this game from start to finish and may wonder how the margin was not larger.
The Vikings attituse was clear as early as the 2nd minute when Toursoundis had the first opportunity but his header sailed wide. Almandis then also failed to hit the target with a freekick just a minute later. Newry then got a break as the Vikings pushed and Lees had to be watchful of Atlees' powerful strike. Leo Idle then continued the Vikings theme of missing the goal with a powerful shot on 11. Toursoundis again headed over on 13 as the Vikings created but could not work the keeper. Again a good chance was created on 14 but again Toursoundis missed the target. The breakthrough eventually came in 24 minutes with the unfortunate Dadashi putting through his own net under pressure from the Vikings forwards. Bonavia then showed Toursoundis where the goal was hammering in his first opportunity on 27 minutes after being found in space by Strachan. Bonavia then headed over on 40 as the Vikings failed to put the game to bed. 2-0 at half time with the Vikings having 57% of the ball and 8 chances to 1.
Newry had obviously been told to get out and attack and Heaton had a shot on 53 which was easy for Lees to deal with. Toursoundis then seemed to have a head like a 50p as he again failed to find the target with a header on 68. Toursoundis then proved he is better with the ball at feet and slammed the third goal in from range after pciking the ball up deep from Veziridis. Newry got a late consolation from the penalty spot on 88 with Wellens slotting past Lees with style. It was too little too late for Newry and they had been well beaten on the day. 3-1 and 10 chances to 3.
Eaglesrjh was happy with the win but could do with more shots on target please forwards!!!
