Finally!

It took 5 matches, but Santos were finally able to get the donkey off their back and finally win a game in the RM Invitational. Playing St. Omer at the Five Percent Stadium, Santos fled past the home team within the first half, scoring 4 goals.

Manager Sean7 has been disappointed with Goalkeeper Paulo Valdez this season, and sought to make an acquisition that would strengthen the defence. Valdez, it seems, may have reached the limit of his usefulness to the team. 33-year old veteran keeper Alvar Rodenas was brought in to provide some stability. Critics may point out that manager Sean7 paid over the odds for the keeper, but the manager knew competing in this elite league, desperate times called for desperate measures.

Rodenas made a great impact in the game, doing his best Gandalf the Grey impression of “You Shall Not Pass!!!”, snuffing out any chances the opposition had. Indeed, he may have gotten a clean sheet in his first game, if not for a dubious penalty called at the end of the game.

Rodenas was pleased with the start. “Coming in only a couple of days back and being thrown right out there in a pressure packed game, and coming out on top, really eased my nerves. Santos are a big club, and I hope to achieve many things with them.”

“I realize Rodenas has a few good years left in him”, said Sean, “but hopefully this provides some proper competition for Paulo while he takes some time off to develop.”

Indeed, Valdez vowed not to go down without a fight .“I am not quitting. Alvar is obviously a class keeper, but I will make sure he works out there for every minute. This isn’t the last you’ll see of me.”
