Decent week for the Lions

Three Lions FC have had a decent week after first defeating Goals Aloud at home followed by a 3-1 loss away to Tropical Thunder. Cristiano Izuldo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a close range tap in after Zlatan Izuhimovic had made his way through a fragile defence after the injury to Jason Bath. The hosts then scored a second on 38 minutes with Izuhimovic lobbing a header past Rowan Butcher after a desperate Cesc Izukas cross from the edge of the field. The home side went into the break 3-0 up after John Izu Mikel powered a header right into the back of the net from an Izu Kaka cross.

The hosts came out of the dressing room and slowed the pace as they allowed Goals Aloud more possession of the ball and sat back to defend. They were nearly made to pay for it as Bruce Weatherstone's unexpected strike from 25 yards had Casillas scrambling over only to have the ball curve wide at the last moment. However, the hosts further extended their lead in the 66th minute as Butcher, not expecting Izuael Clichy to score his second goal for the club right after scoring his first one, allowed Clichy's floated chip from outside to drop into the top corner. The visitors' slim hopes of a comeback were fading but they remained hopeful of a goal or two as Casillas was forced first to save a Howard Harrell breakaway and then to guard against Dan Ruffer's powerful half-volley from a dangerous freekick. Somewhere in between those two chances, Robin van Izu grabbed his side's fifth goal with a stunning freekick.

"Two goals in two games, I'm hoping to score some more this season," said Izuael Clichy after the game.

However, Izuhimovic was the sole goalscorer for Three Lions FC in the next game as the side lost 3-1 at Tropical Thunder. Horatio Minotti opened the scoring after just 9 minutes as he headed in a Tryggvi Valsson cross. However, Izuhimovic silenced the home fans as he headed in a Luca Tonizu cross in much the same fashion to level up the score going into the halftime interval. Thunder then pulled ahead with two late goals which many will feel were undeserved as Geovany Dainelli converted a penalty after his dramatic dive in the box in the 81st minute and then Valsson headed in a Luca Scolza in added time, though there were hardly any stoppages in the second half.

"We really should have picked up a point here today and I will be attending the next league meeting to discuss the sacking or intense training of the lesser skilled referees we have at the moment to produce higher quality referees, whether it be through training those we currently have or hiring new ones," said Izuka after the match.

Three Lions FC will host The Vikings before paying a visit to Kirkbride Strollers in the coming week. The Whites will have fond memories of the corresponding fixtures back in season 1 when all three sides were still in Division 2 when Robin van Izu and Izu Kuyt, who has left the club for Premier League side Liverpool, inspired a comeback against The Vikings while Carles Izuyol will remember his winner against Kirkbride Strollers at The Bush. Cesc Izukas will also be looking for revenge after his horrendous injury against The Vikings, then Enfield Spartans, which ruled him out for quite a part of the club's first season.
