Forrester Fires Wandsworth

Rowley Forrester netted twice to keep Wandsworth FC looking down on everyone in Division Three of the RM Invitational leagues. Visiting These Charming Men they always had the game in hand as they produced an excellent second-half performance. Keeping their hosts under control as an attacking force Wandsworth proceeded to cut through their defence in scoring four goals. Forrester netted the first from a super free-kick before midfield man Mirciulica Bardes rounded off a breakaway move to put the leaders firmly in control. It wasn’t all good news for Wandsworth as Stewart Sterland and Freddy Kennedy suffered injuries. This didn’t trouble the visitors too much, though, as Samson Heskey shot home for number three. Jeremiah McMahon was sent-off as the action continued, once again LotharIstvan’s side bounced back by netting number four through the superb Forrester. In meeting with Patrikpatrik for an interview LotharIstvan explained that his side’s mentality is ‘about scoring more goals than the opponent’ and this attacking philosophy has seen them win four from four and top the division without conceding a goal. These Charming Men find themselves sliding alarmingly down the table and will need improvement very soon to keep their season alive.

Another side in good goal-scoring form were London Gunners as they beat Pretty in pink 4-1 at Emirates Stadium. Gunners’ manager Josef09 pre-match stated ‘I expect to get the full three points and nothing less.’ The foundations for the victory were set in the first-half as Isak Bergendorff and Denny Kallgren scored quality headers to put the hosts 2-0 up at the break. Pretty in pink proved a more attacking force in the second-half and briefly rallied as Sheldon Skiverton scored his first off the season to reduce the arrears to just one goal. The game was sealed in a three minute spell midway through the half. Denny Kallgren scored his second goal of the game to put the London Gunners back in front by two goals and when Gunvald Fahlgren headed in the fourth the game was over as a contest. The victory sees LG remain in second spot with PIP slipping down into ninth and needing a new approach to turn their season round.

Completing the top three are wortley afc as they kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a 2-1 defeat of The Champs. Chances were aplenty in a very even game between two good sides. Quincy Bowey gave wortley the advantage with a header on 19 minutes. Bowey then set-up the crucial second goal for Brandon Hiller as the hosts’ superior finishing was to prove the difference. Cal Butters did respond for The Champs but it proved only a consolation as they couldn’t find the final touches on their other chances to force an equaliser. With wortley on 10 points in the final promotion slot The Champs slipped down to sixth with 6 points from their opening four games. Both sides are involved in massive games in Round 5 as wortley travel to Wandsworth and The Champs host London Gunners.

Glory Hornets took advantage of playing goal-shy The Posh by returning to winning ways with a 3-0 victory. With The Posh once again naming no subs and creating next to nothing going forward Glory Hornets were to score three unanswered second-half goals. Dale Lansbury began the procession with a breakaway goal on 63 minutes and he was to play a key role in the next two as well. Crossing for Eliott Malloy to head home on 85 minutes and adding a third on 90 Lansbury was deservedly named man of the match. Following the victory the Glory Hornets sit in fourth place and in good position to mount an assault on promotion in their first season. The Posh will need to stumble across something new if they are to make any sort of impact.

Also victorious on the day were Portsmouth who were the latest to take out a youthful Chelsea. Chelsea had provided a shock when Nicholas Nosworthy scored a penalty to give them a first-half lead which was just reward for an excellent opening 45 minutes. Portsmouth were to respond in fine fashion after the interval following some stern words from LewisHopes. Phil Lambert shot home in the penalty area to level matters and despite a serious looking injury to Ceridwen Buckley the visitors continued to perform admirably. Lambert was playing to a far higher standard than usual as he stunned Chelsea with a long range shot to put them in front for the first time. The win was completed with a Lambert header as the forward bagged a match ball for his hat-trick. Jamma99 will have expected days like this but will be pleased at the competitiveness of his side. Lewis seemed very pleased with the win and declared ‘we are going up.’

Northwich Victoria and Alsancak F.C were involved in a very tight match at Victoria Stadium. The first-half was overshadowed by bad looking injuries to Dermot Aymes and Eliott Burbank as both sides were forced into a reshuffle. The goal action was to arrive late in the game as Albert Scully looked to have won the game for the visitors with a terrific breakaway. Northwich, to their credit, didn’t let this have a negative effect on them and they continued to play in impressive fashion. They got their reward when a penalty was awarded on 94 minutes and Tom-Stian Anthonsen, showing nerves of steel, stepped up and stroked the ball home. Wienersnitzel shrugged off the disappointment of the equaliser by stating in sporting manner ‘This was an evenly fought game with a draw being the fair result.’ Northwich manager MadMagpie has created a side which is very tough to beat and can look forward to his next match with The Posh with a certain degree of confidence.
