Hun Haters Hurt Greatness

Hun Haters left it late to defeat F.C. Greatness as they bounced back from their defeat to AFC Stanley in their last outing. Greatness looked to stamp their authority on the clash early on and were punished by referee Constance Paine. Other than yellow cards the first-half was devoid of much action but it would hot up after the break. Martinus Benfari shot home on 50 minutes as Hun looked to be staring down the barrel of a second straight defeat. This looked even more likely when captain Ted Caird was taken off injured. Despite this setback Hun Haters rolled up their collective sleeve and attacked Greatness with passion and no little skill. Iain Emery shot home in the area with just minutes of normal time remaining and the Haters found time for the win when, with the clock showing 96 minutes, Ashton Crosby found space in amongst a lot of Greatness bodies to complete an unbelievable comeback. All Darren Calvert could muster was a simple ‘Damn’ as to how the game ended. Celticchris was more eloquent, claiming the win ‘showed the resilience of the team.’

Marseille dropped their 100% record as Tranmere Rovers kept their season progressing on an upwards curve. In an excellent first-half display Tranmere attacked their illustrious visitors and were twice rewarded. Ray Hearts expertly taking a free-kick which beat Marseille captain Abrey in goal. With time running out in the half Joe Urpani got a crucial second goal which completely deflated the first season champions. Marseille improved after the break but you sensed Tranmere were happy to sit in and protect their 2-0 lead. The win sees Tranmere move level on points with Marseille, both sides having taken six points from their opening three games.

Tranmere’s next opponents are Yorkshires Amateurs who were impressive 3-1 winners over AC Milan. Milan had the better of the opening half but perversely found themselves a goal down at the interval. Murray Davis added to his growing reputation with a clinical strike after 15 minutes. Milan did level in the early stages of the second-half through Ron Aldinho but then fell away badly as the match progressed. Freddie Roos and Gabriel Mohan were to net for the hosts as both were beneficiaries of the mercurial midfield ability of Davis. Milan manager MarkieRich was ‘not happy’ with the defeat and described the last couple of games as ‘two bad losses in a row.’ Danlufc will surely be happy that his side bounced back so quickly after falling to Greatness earlier in the week. They are also one of the sides on six points as the jostling for places begins.

ThunderCats F.C continue to be the side to set the pace as they defeated a strong AFC Stanley side 2-1 at Garden Street. The game, in truth, wasn’t full of chances but a high percentage of those that did arrive resulted in goals. Leonardo Borja headed in on seven minutes to stun the home faithful but the silence wasn’t to last long. Thorbjorn Lind opened his account for the season on 21 minutes to level matters as the two sides slugged it out. ThunderCats showed their top division experience by expertly taking another chance when Nelson Queimado headed in from a Fabricio Cidade cross. This was to be the end of the scoring as the visitors looked to take the sting out of the game in the closing stages. Stanley remain on three points but will be encouraged by their displays on arrival in the top division while ThunderCats make it nine from nine and sit in familiar territory at the top of the table.

Reggae Reggae Sauce took advantage of a St Omer side with an average age of 18 to record their first win of the campaign. Omer’s inexperience showed as they allowed John Part to set Mervyn King up for a simple opener on six minutes. King was to add a second on 42 minutes as the home side proved accurate in front of goal. The second-half was to be almost a mirror image as the play was camped in the Omer half. Derek Acorah helped himself to a goal after being set-up by Jelle Klaasen before Klaasen himself scored with a fine header as the young visitors looked confused as to how they could get back into the game. Xpertelevener will be relieved not to see his side in the relegation zone after spending much of last season there while the Omer side look destined for Division One if the average age of their side remains at such a low level for long.

Santos and Totaalvoetbal shared six goals in an exciting game at Estadio do Deus. Rogerio Franca had set the home side on their way after 23 minutes as they looked to get their first points on the board following promotion last time out. The lead wasn’t to last long, though, as Pierre van Diemen illustrated how tough life can be at the top table if you concede chances. Shirsh Vajpayee gave the visitors a 2-1 lead after the break before Santos capitalised on two injuries in the Totaal line-up to turn the game on its head. Torbjorn Alshammar proved the thorn in the visiting side as he finished a breakaway before heading accurately home to put the hosts 3-2 up. Totaalvoetbal showed great resilience in coming back instantly through Johan Juffing as a superb game ended in a fair 3-3 draw. Sean will be pleased his side have a point on the board after his side have taken on last season’s top three sides in their opening three fixtures. Meanwhile, Robin Meeblind was happy with the ‘tremendous character’ shown in coming back before he looked forward to a meeting with Markham in the next round.
