Interview with a manager - ConyTottee
From time to time I'll be interviewing various managers throughout the league, finding out more about what makes them tick and more about their side, first up is St Omer boss ConyTottee, I caught up with him ahead of the match against AFC Boo Boys:
Paddy: So Cony, you're coming up to celebrating a year in charge of the club, what do you feel has changed in your time at the Five Percent Stadium?
Cony: I think the biggest change is that the side now has some potential. When I took over the players weren't good enough, and were too old to be worth any money. Now, at least we have some value in the players we have.
Paddy: You're considered some what of a feeder club or to reword what I'm trying to say a club that regularly brings through players for the team as well as to raise funds for the club.
Currently four of your former players are with other clubs in the RMI and you've raised countless funds through sales of young players whilst managing to bring more through, would you say this is a concious decision on your part or more circumstance? Does it bring you joy seeing your former players forging careers for themselves with other teams in the RMI?
Cony: I'm pleased that the players we've sold are doing well, although I'm disappointed to have had to let them go in the first place. Unfortunately this stems from the issues when I took over, so I didn't really have a choice but to start from scratch which means buying and selling a large number of players nearly every season.
Paddy: Which player of you current squad would you say is your brightest hope for the future?
Cony: I think Jorn Schone is going to be a big name in the coming years.
Paddy: What would you say your short term aims are with your side?
Cony: The main short term aim to to ensure every player has a decent update, and to try and win a few games this season.
Paddy: and in the long term?
Cony: Long term I'd like to be able to keep the majority of this side together, and then add some experience and start trying to push up the divisions.
Paddy: In recent times you've brought five new players to the side, do you have any plans to dip into the transfer market any time soon?
Cony: No. I won't be buying any more players this season, and in fact may be looking to let one go to bring in funds for training.
Paddy: Without giving too much away to your opponents, are there any formations you would say you favour?
Cony: I don't really have a favourite formation. I tend to change formation quite a bit depending on who we're playing and what players I have available.
Paddy: You seem very popular with the clubs fans and opposing managers, why would you say that is?
Cony: I think people can see what state the club was in when I took over, and that we had to go backwards to go forwards rather than the quick fix of buying over the hill players.
Paddy: What would you say your philosophy is as a manager?
Cony: Trying to bring youth players through and playing attacking football.
Paddy: Your side managed a 1-0 against Tottenham followed by a 2-0 victory over Reggae Reggae Sauce in your last outing, how do you think you will fare in your upcoming match against AFC Boo Boys?
Cony: We've won two on the trot for the first time in years, so we go into the game on a high. However, we know it will be a tough game so I'd happily take a draw.
Big thanks to ConyTottee for taking the time to answer my questions.
