Round ten of the RMI division three saw Gooners take on Abu Dhabi, the first half of this season began with Gooners young guns blazing a trail and it ended in a simular fashion. Although with the sale of an inconsistent Pires and the manager not needing to risk their next big name in Fabregas, admittedly there were a few more experienced heads in todays line up. Gooners were good as their word though and there were league debuts for Lipscombe, Anelka and Akinfeev, while the much sought after Overmars played a suppporting role.
According to sources inside Highbury coach FMR has been waiting for their season to offcially come off the rails, "allegedly" so he can begin preparing for next season and concentrate the remainder of this season on specific players. These rumours were also said to include the sales of Wright and Adams to fund his planned intensive training schedule and to fund the purchase of his long term interest in Edu Gaspard. FMR has been chasing the intelligent, hard shooting, free kick taker since pre-season and thinks that he is the missing peice of the puzzle in an already generously gifted midfield.
If todays game was anything to go by though, the manager may have to wait awhile longer! Gooners made hard work of the game in the first half and needed the highly rated referee to be at his best as Abu Dhabi found the net first with an offside attempt. Akinfeev would not have his day spoilt though and had a fantastic debut which included a clean sheet, although the three men just infront of him played something of a large role in todays result. There must also be a special mention for Sol Campbell, who just recently looked to have played his last game for Gooners and was in last chance saloon. Today Campbell looked a new man and put in his best performance in a Gooner shirt and looked in the best form of his career.
The main concern for Gooners though was the frontline, and the concern seemed well placed as the home team failed to create any real threat in the last third. It was the injury to Anelka that seemed to change Gooners fortunes and the introduction of Wiltord seemed to have the needed impact. Soon after the most experienced head in the home side made the difference and Wright added to his own impressive statistics this season to give Gooners the lead. The younger generation were not to be out done though and Wiltord made sure they would take all three points and justified the managers decision to not include one Thierry Henry in the squad.
We caught up with a bemused looking FMR as he collected his second Manager of the round award:
"Firstly lets deal with the Anelka situation, the damage is not as bad as it first looked and he should be ok to complete his first season and play the remaining four games he needs. I'm sure there will be many a manager who was as worried as I was when he was stretchered off and I am sure they will all breathe a big sigh of releif to know he will be appearing in a game against them soon. Sadly for Talinmer he will not recover in time to make the return fixture and I am sure he is just if not more disappointed than myself.
I felt todays game went ok but maybe the result creates more problems than it solves for sure, I guess we take it one game at a time now and see how our forms develop and how other reults pan out. The loss of Anelka for sure makes it alot easier to delay any decisions we need to make regarding the team and which route we decide to take. Our form also looks extremly good and we hope to carry that beyond the Dhabi games, I dont think we can win the league with our priorities now laying elsewhere but certainly we are more than capable of having an influence on the outcome in many ways. As for promotion Dream Team may have the edge in that battle but we take each round as it comes and maybe if the cushion we have increases slightly we could alter our plans slightly also.
The next round again faces us against Abu Dhabi but with Anelka unable to play I think you will see more of a familiar line up and we will look to capatalise on the good form we have and add to that. Of course the focus will be on gaining experience for our fringe players but without the need to play Anelka I think we will be too strong in all positions. I think we will get through the next two fixtures and then look at our situation again and try to come to the correct decision on how we finish the season."
FMR then proceeded to pull out a book from his jacket
"After Crimea manager Ith's recent statement about lack of culture in the RMI... a statement i feel is totally unfounded! I mean just last pre-season Paddy travelled to the Amazon to stay with a tribe never before inhabited by so called civilized man and spent four months learning to communicate with them using his arse! I mean if thats not culture you tell me what is!
Anyway I decided to write my own book entiled "I never win but still think I am #1", I would like to read you an extract I call....
False Hope:
Crimea were 4th for just a little while.
FMR and @peace together used their guile.
A resurgent Dream Team have now arisen,
To beat those Bullies while,
FMR, @peace, RDCM and some others did smile.
