Totaalvoetbal enjoyed a strange week as they continued their chase for a second RM Invitational title.
A 5-0 home win against AFC Stanley was the perfect way to begin the week in a dominant performance. Edwin Hayter, William Ralph Dean, Johan Juffing, Pierre van Diemen and Antonello Ballarin all netted in a strangely one-sided game against old friends.
Totaal would fare less well against another of their friendly rivals on Friday, though, as Yorkshires Amateurs dug deep to secure a hard-earned point. Despite creating all of the chances Totaal would see the woodwork, poor finishing and some dogged home defending cost them two vital points.
They would return to form against an under-prepared Madrid side on Tuesday, though, to move back to within a point of first. The hero was Ballarin who netted four times to secure a routine win for the Orange men.
However, this win was marred by an injury to Dean which will see him miss three games and a sending-off to Juffing which rules him out of their next match.
We caught up with Robin Meeblind to find his thoughts on events:
‘Well, it’s still advantage Eagles and The Vikings from what I can see,’ he began.
‘I believe they have the easier run-in and our match is to be played at Viking Land where they have an incredible record. Add to that the injury to Dean, who has been our most consistent performer this season, and we still have it all to do.
‘I’m sure Eagles will be concerned by Portway’s absence too and youth he needs to play so it is a case of swings and roundabouts there I guess and we will both have our concerns.
‘Maybe a little luck will swing it one way or the other. We’ll see.’
