Maurice Jacobs’ point against Cardiff City in the beginning of February was his 40th for Kensington Boys Club making him the all time point champion for the club.
But the point is so far his first and only for this season. After seven matches have passed Maurice has played four of them without any great success and has been left out of the squad for three matches. This may sound like something of little concern but when it is a captain such as Maurice Jacobs and a symbol for the club – there are a few concerned faces in the Kensingtonian crowd.
There is little known about what has caused this for Jacobs, but since the end of December 2009 there is definitely something lacking in his stride. After a series of losses and draws only surpassed by the clubs mense horribilis in August 2009 Jacobs has been under a lot of pressure to perform and captain his beloved team to stability and victory.
But it is clear that the Kensingtonian captain took a lot of the club’s past defeats personally and has had a lot of difficulties in finding his form. The KBC’s fitness team has worked all through February with reportedly up to five sessions so far this month to figure out if anything is wrong physically with Jacobs but it is still uncertain if he can find his way back to the way he can play before the Boys Club are plunged into division 2.
Coach Patrikpatrik has historically been reluctant to speak of any individual players’ roles in times of defeat but stated that “this is Maurice Jacobs we are talking about, a giant for the club, captain, leader and sixteen matches away from being a Legend. We all have our periods of uncertainty in ourselves - periods when we need friends and support and not pressure and uncertainty. But if there is anything I am certain of it is that Maurice Jacobs will prevail and show the RMI what he really is capable of. “
However, it is rumoured that Patrikpatrik has been concerned about Maurice Jacobs psychological status saying to close staff that
“..(Maurice)… will play for his club whenever he is called for but until he has found the joy to play again I will use his services carefully. There is no use in calling for a saviour until he himself feels himself worthy of saving.”
Still strapped for cash, it is rumoured that Kensington Boys Club have once again put a monstrous effort into improving the squad’s fitness before the mid-season. It is unclear whether 31-year old Maurice Jacobs will be able to improve his before today’s match against African Imitators.
