Wortley survived a rare old battle with Cressex to record a 4-3 away victory and stay on top of Division Three. The game was full of chances as both sides brought an attacking attitude into the contest. Wortley would score from the very first attack as Brandon Hiller steered in a shot which Ikhala couldn’t get near. Cressex’s response was a Theo Gronlund half-volley which brushed a post and a Cabbar Saatcioglu header which would go over. They would be rewarded for their tenacity, though, as Douglas Wallberg headed in a 14th minute equaliser. Rai Kike would then attempt to put the visitors back in front but his powerful strike went just wide before Walter Willock put a chip well-over. The sides would then trade free-kick chances as Paulinho Santos had his shot turned round by Ikhala while Emil Rojas also had his effort palmed away. The second-half brought more of the same as both sides searched for goals. Hiller would see Ikhala block his header while Rojas had another free-kick saved for the home side. Wortley would have another effort from Hiller saved before they did regain the lead; Hiller this time heading beyond the ‘keeper on 57 minutes. Lauro Poggi tried to respond for the hosts but his chip hit the woodwork and they would find themselves 3-1 behind as Santos thumped home a free-kick. Hiller would narrowly fail to add to his two goals as his low shot went wide while Rojas’ attempt to bring the hosts back into it ended with Gareth punching the ball clear. Poggi would pull a goal back on 73 minutes, though, as he headed in with some aplomb but only seven minutes later Hiller completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to re-establish the two-goal lead. Wallberg briefly gave Cressex fresh hope with another fine headed goal but time was against them and they slipped to a 3-4 defeat. The win will have come as a relief to Thegreatlordbags and they can maintain momentum with a home match against Norfolk on Friday. Villan_RAS can be proud of his side in defeat and hope this points to a brighter future.
Gooners gave Rolling Thunders’ new boss Vehusheia a debut to forget as they romped to a 5-0 success at Cloud Nine. The first-half would be quite even in terms of chances but the visitors’ superior finishing gave them the edge. Thunder nearly took an early lead but Yiannis Koutsis saw a free-kick strike a post while Kyle Lang headed over at the other end. Jovan Gagic would have a headed chance for the hosts but put it too close to Raberg and a free-kick from Koutsis would see the ‘keeper make a leg save. Broderick Shilton would then give the Gooners the lead with a powerful strike in the area and Andres Iniesta forced Jorquera into a decent save from a free-kick. Gooners would score a second, though, as Yanuar Kembung produced a stunning header just before the break. Gooners would be dominant in the second-half and added to their lead. Sonny Baron placed home an accurate shot on 50 minutes but had it chalked off for a dubious offside call while a 63rd minute free-kick from Iniesta was warded off by the ‘keeper. Iniesta would have another free-kick effort which didn’t trouble Jorquera but the cat was powerless to do anything about the midfielder’s next strike; a 67th minute driving shot which flew into the top corner. Sueb Gomet made things worse for the hosts by receiving red for use of the elbow and it would then be 4-0 as Baron headed in. The fifth goal duly arrived in injury-time as Baron doubled his tally with another fine header to complete a sound evening’s work for the title chasers. Manager FMRealism declared that ‘he loves the team’ as they keep producing the performances which currently has them in third spot. Vehusheia explained to fans that his team are a ‘young group and will be built up in mind and skill to be among the greats.’ Exciting times to be a Thunder fan.
Morley Town fell further behind in the race for promotion as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Jammas AllStars. In a dour game only one chance was created; Dustin Wotton seeing his header brush a post in the first-half. Morley would have a lot of possession during the contest but could do precious little with it and will hope for better when they meet Cressex next. Jamma will be pleased with a point as his side look to grow little by little.
Dream Team were comfortable winners to keep their place in second; overcoming Norfolk N Chance 5-1 at Hoppitop Ground. An early goal settled any nerves DT might have had with Garry Gain finishing a breakaway move. Norfolk nearly equalised but Evgeny Kuryanov’s effort went inches wide while Mil Moody steered an effort onto the post at the other end. Luke Light would make it 2-0 with a precise header while Norfolk continued to struggle in front of goal; Nigel Grady heading over before Andy Howe saw a shot saved by Delirious. Ronaldo Ready had a header brush a post for DT before Gain missed with another shot. 3-0 would arrive on 38 minutes as Light lobbed home before Garry Greed headed in to make it 4-0 on 40 minutes. Greed forced Clemens into a fine save moments later and Gain saw a powerful header kicked away as DT continued to press. Further chances came for both sides after the break with Grady flicking a header onto a post as Norfolk looked for a goal. Instead, they would be 5-0 behind as Gain shot home after a corner and he looked for a hat-trick as he put a header just wide. Klyde Krippner would see a free-kick stopped for the home side while Clemens excelled himself at the other end to save from a Kris Krafty bicycle-kick. Norfolk finally got a goal on 86 minutes courtesy of a Dudley Dream deflection but it wouldn’t be enough to stop DT coasting to victory. MrJames will have thought of this as job done but nothing more as they look to match results with the other promotion hopefuls. Howemiester’s side continue to score goals but an elusive victory appears as far away as ever.
1863 Munich moved into fifth-place as they defeated rivals Alsancak 1-0. An evenly-fought contest began with Gabriel Agbonlahor smashing a shot off the bar for the visitors in the third minute. Munich would be the side to take the lead, though, as Stephane Aoudou cracked home a free-kick on 29 minutes. Fraizer Campbell would head over for the visitors before Aoudou wasted a further free-kick as the sides traded chances before the break. Chances came late in the second-half with Paolo Ballotta hitting the bar with a header and Aoudou having a free-kick stopped as Munich looked to put the game to bed. Rory Burston would have a late chance to grab a point for the visitors but Blacksmith saved from his curled shot and they would end up on the wrong side of the score. Anderson was happy his side are now in 5th although he described the gap to the next side as ‘ridiculous.’ Wienersnitzel still has his side in impressive form and this will remain the priority for the remainder of this season.
EspAda responded to Malteseexpert’s reappearance with a 2-1 home success over Mighty Mojos. Daniel Brewster hit the angle with an early chip for the hosts before Vedin Sinanovic nearly headed past his own ‘keeper at the other end. Mojos would also go close through a Michel Montolio header which needed saving before Herbert Stigsson gave the hosts a lead with a fine strike in the area. Geoffrey Stiles then skimmed an effort over for the hosts before the Mojos countered with Ronald Stoneman having a volley saved. An exciting first-half concluded with Stiles seeing a volley hit the crossbar and their lead remained at one. Mojos would draw level with the first chance after the break; Montolio powering in a header on 67 minutes. EspAda responded with Ronaldo Bettencourt hitting the bar with a header of his own but it wouldn’t matter as Diego Maradona netted the winner on 76 minutes with a calm finish. Home fans will now hope Malteseexpert is around on a more regular basis to lift the side above mid-table in the seasons to come. Joshy called the match a ‘total disaster’ and admitted that he was ‘too adventurous for his own good.’
