Totaalvoetbal could only muster a point from their two fixtures this past week; albeit against top quality opposition.
A 1-1 draw with ThunderCats was a fair result with both teams enjoying periods on top and good chances. Pierre van Diemen would head the Dutch side into the lead only for an injury-time equaliser by Leonardo Borja to salvage a draw for Baz’s Cats.
This was followed by a 1-0 defeat at West Brom in a game where Totaal might have felt they were good enough for at least a point. The goal came fairly early in the piece as Billy Bassett thundered in a free-kick which left Leemans rooted. Totaal created chances of their own and hit the woodwork but were to come up just short in their efforts.
Robin Meeblind was in a relaxed mood when reporters caught up with him earlier today:
“ThunderCats and West Brom are two hugely difficult contests and with a bit more luck we would have come out with more than just a point.
“I think even Dinky has admitted he used a big bonus to get that little extra out of his players. Fair play to him, in his position I’d have done the same and it worked on the day. I wish him luck as he continues his quest for that first title.
“For us now we must focus on getting Metelo and Heitinga up to speed. We would like to get Snelders there also but he might take a back seat depending on how poorly our average age stacks up. We don’t mind the losses necessarily but I don’t want the team to lose confidence by getting pumped.
On a side note Meeblind spoke about the new rivalry in the top league following the arrival of Solongsuperman:
“The press releases have been most entertaining. I think other managers in the league will have been watching as Izu and SSM go head-to-head. It brings an added spice to the league.
“I’m sure it’s just high jinks and they’ll share a glass of something fizzy when they meet. Maybe a bottle of Dandelion and Burdock.”
