The Lone Wanderers put an end to Juventus' brilliant run with some amazing finishing in a thumping 6-1 home victory. Juve started with a Jacobo Chacros free-kick but this missed the target. They would remain the more positive of the two in the opening stages, though, and took the lead as Kristoffer Lindfors headed home from a corner. The Wanderers’ first chance came on 21 minutes and it would result in the equaliser as Chano Paya shot home from inside the area after Juve failed to deal with a corner. Stephen Julius put a free-kick over for the hosts before Albert Scully had a lob disallowed on 31 minutes. Marco Busquets would put the hosts ahead on 39 minutes with a clever toe-poke finish and the forward headed in the third two minutes later. Rowan Atlee flicked in a header on 43 minutes as the home side started to overwhelm the visitors. Chacros was given a free-kick opportunity to bring Juve back into it but Peyton saved and they went in 4-1 down. Dragos Ceaun quickly had the hosts 5-1 ahead with an excellent header and when Evandro Lemos deposited a penalty the game was up for Juve. Even so they would force late chances but Obadele Eliakwu’s shot from distance was ruled out for a foul while Orlan Canito’s header was punched away by Peyton. HH’s side seem to have clicked into gear for the business end of the season and have now won their last four matches. They now travel to Splott in a massive game at the top of the section with HH saying to this reporter ‘How about you rule us out of the title race as well?’ Allow this reporter to oblige, The Lone Wanderers have left their run at the title too late and cannot possibly win it(cheques payable to Totaalvoetbal Football if you do win it). SuperJuve’s side are only four points back of the promotion places but much will depend on how they bounce back following this crushing loss.
Splott are still at the head of the table as they outclassed St Omer 6-0 at Five Percent Stadium. Kurt Nightcrawler shot the visitors into a third minute lead and although Bruno Vasa did force Ghostrider into a save at the other end it was mainly one-way traffic. Denilson Pereira Neves flicked home the second with his head on 16 minutes while Frank Punisher had his headed effort saved a minute later. Clyde Henderson would make it 3-0 with another header as Omer failed to deal with the crossed ball and they were caught out in a more cheeky fashion on 35 minutes as Neves back-heeled home the fourth. Paul-Phillip Ravage hit the crossbar with a clever chip on the hour and the fifth would arrive when Neves headed in his hat-trick goal. Nightcrawler would put another header over the bar before Ravage launched himself for a diving header to make it 6-0 just before time. Not only was the result pleasing for Carbonmonoxide but he received a ‘real fillip’ with the contract extensions of his major players. St Omer News reported that their manager is ‘desperate for a decent update to try and and mix it with the better teams.’
These Charming Men held onto second with a solid 2-0 home win over Reggae Reggae Sauce. Sauce would play their part in a decent contest and Todd Osborn’s header needed flicking over by home ‘keeper Avellino. Wayne Mardle would then power a shot over and Shivan Preetnav also headed over as the visitors continued to press. They would be hit by a sucker punch, though, as Chano Delgado shot home from inside the area with TCM’s first chance. Delgado might have made it 2-0 before the interval but his excellent header hit a post and the lead remained at one. TCM were dominant after the break and created several good openings. Delgado headed over the bar before Mauricio Capdevila had a half-volley saved by Mullen. The second goal arrived when Vaios Pakaltsis side-footed home on 71 minutes to leave Sauce with it all to do. Still it would be the home side who would press and Tord Jakobson missed a late chance to make it 3-0. Nevertheless the promotion chasing side claimed all three points although TCM News scathingly said going forward they ‘had the attacking prowess of a guinea pig.’ Still, RDCM will remain confident especially with Omer next up. Xpertelevener will see positives in this performance and they will now aim for a little consitsency.
Arsenal UK are still in the thick of the battle after a pulverising 4-1 home victory over Futsal. Theo Walcott lobbed over early on and Arsenal would go on to create a plethora of chances. Abou Diaby saw a curled shot theatrically saved by Roberts before Eduardo da Silva’s header was also stopped by the ‘keeper. Tomas Rosicky would be the next to be denied by Roberts after he had got in a driving shot while Ricky Routhledge had a header disallowed at the other end. Routhledge would power another header at the ‘keeper before Sid Peyton placed home the opening goal at the other end. Andrey Arshavin thumped in a free-kick to quickly put the hosts 2-0 ahead while da Silva mishit a shot against a post on 36 minutes. Another mishit shot by da Silva did make it 3-0 on 40 minutes as Arsenal enjoyed some fortune. The second-half saw more of the same but da Silva was denied by Roberts from a tight angle. The forward would also flick a header over while Peyton placed a shot wide on 57 minutes. Graeme Haynes brushed a post with a decent effort for Futsal while da Silva had a strike ruled out for handball. The visitors would pull a goal back as Rick Tuttle thundered in a strike from distance but a chip by Walcott quickly re-established the three-goal lead. Rosicky would then have a header saved but it wouldn’t matter as Arsenal cruised to victory. Arsenal News reported that Futsal would be ‘counting their lucky stars it wasn’t more than 4’ as the side put together an impressive performance. Jake will now realise promotion is a tough ask but the talented coach is sure to have them focused until the final game.
Xelaalex got his reign as BitterSweeters manager of to a winning start as his side overcame Belly Tubbies 3-1 at Ta qali. Alexander Frolov headed in the opening goal as early as the third minute and the midfielder would have made it two with a side-footed effort had Fitzsimmons not been so alert. The ‘keeper would have a routine save to make from a Michal Handzus toe-poke and the score would stay the same until the break. Torben Kummel forced Fitzsimmons into further excellence from a fine strike on 57 minutes before Fahrettin Inal thumped in a free-kick for 2-0 on 58 minutes. Handzus would receive a red card for brutal play on 70 minutes and Paul Bracewell took advantage by curling in a long range shot to reduce the deficit. Evgeni Malkin gave the home side breathing space eight minutes later, though, by lobbing home for 3-1. Tubbies would see a late Pat van de Hauwe free-kick saved and it would prove another frustrating day for the fans of the visitors who haven’t seen their manager for quite some time. Xelaalex will have been happy with the win and will look to gain as many points as possible this season before turning the club around in the silly-season.
Kroklund remained 10 points above the drop zone with an excellent 3-1 home victory over Carthage. Carthage would start strongly and a volley by Quincy Lansbury had them 1-0 up on eight minutes. This lead would be short-lived, though, as Gabriel Galtier showed a clinical touch after a corner. This would be the last of the first-half action but there would be more chances in the second 45 minutes. Hamilcar Barca flicked a header woefully off-target for the visitors while Bosse Bong missed the goal from a free-kick chance. Ad Herbal would mishit when well-placed while Fabius Maximus missed from a free-kick as Carthage endured frustration in front of goal. They would pay for these misses as Bosse Bong hit a beautiful free-kick to make it 2-1 on 85 minutes and then two minutes later Berti Behrends placed home a super shot to seal the win. Carthage did have a late chance but Torsten Post couldn’t keep his header down and they fell to defeat. Blakey will be concerned with his side’s recent run and after sitting top for so long they have now dropped to fifth and in danger of missing out on promotion altogether. Bossebong has his side in tremendous form and an encouraging change report might be round the corner.
