Vikings lose out in close battle.
The Vikings lost at home to Kensington Boys club and the manager was taking the rap for the defeat.
The game started well for the Vikings when they were awarded a 6th minute penalty for a clear foul in the box. Tassiopoulos stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to give the Vikings the perfect start. Papakostas then went close to a second in the 11th minute as his lob went centimetres over the bar. Kensington then got back into the game in the 23rd minute with the most dubious decision that this reporter has ever seen. A blatant dive in the box with no player anywhere near the attacker but the ref saw fit to award the spot kick. Jacobs took and had just enough pace on the ball to beat Raasch in the Vikings goal. Papakostas then had an opportunity to put the Vikings back in the lead but his 28th minute freekick was straight at the keeper. He had another chance on 30 minutes but the keeper again dealt with the freekick. Kensington then got a dead ball situation of their own on 34 minutes but de vere shot too close to Raasch. Papakostas then had a third attempt at a freekick in the 39th minute and this time he'd found his range and the ball sailed into the net. The lead only lasted 2 minutes when Gray actually got his shot all wrong and found the ball wrong footing the keeper and bobbling into the net. 2-2 half time.
Kensington came out after the break looking for goals and Devere went close on 46 hitting a post with a good effort. They got the lead on 50 minutes when Worthington shot home following a corner. Kensington were playing well at this point and Jacobs saw a shot following a set piece move go just wide on 53. Both teams then had to make changes due to players picking up knocks but Kensington seemed happy to sit back on their lead. They nearly came unstuck on 84 minutes as Whitley deflected a shot and was lcuky to see it come back off the post with the keeper stranded. Kensington had one more chance but De Veres freekick was well saved. 2-3 fulltime
Manager Eaglesrjh was quick to blame himself and praise his opponent whilst bemoaning the sides luck. "Tactically PatrikPatrik out did me today so credit to him for that, he changed formation away from his norm and i'd picked a side to play against his normal which cost us dearly in the end. So credit to him for that. Despite that I thought we were unlucky. Their penalty was never a penalty, one goal was a total mishit that if it had gone where it was meant to it would have been saved and then when they deflect the ball on their own goal their lucky enough for it ti hit a post and bounce clear. These things happen in football though and we will need to bounce back and play hard in the next match"
