Santos Strikeforce MIA

The last season had Santos getting high like paper planes, but their sophomore campaign has been lacklustre, with a current standing of 7th in a very tough season. Last season, the goals were pouring, but more were pouring in for the opposition. This season, while the defence has improved, the strikeforce has resembled Fantastic Four’s Sue Richards: nowhere to be seen.

It is strange indeed, that the two top scorers in the league from last season, golden boot winner Torbjörn Alshammar and Adriano Ribero, have combined for a paltry 8 goals in 18 matches together. Alshammar’s form has been somewhat of a mystery..speculation has surrounded the prolific scorer, from the stress on the pitch to deliver, to his shooting boots giving him injury problems, to unrealistic wage demands from his agent..

Nevertheless, manager Sean7 is more optimistic of the team’s chances ahead.‘Certainly, after last season, this campaign has been less satisfying. Now we are about developing the youth players, our midfield in particular is looking strong..Franca is proving to be a future superstar, Ferrari is a driving force box to box, and Raffaelli has certainly impressed. As for the strikers..well, no one's starting place is safe anymore, that's all I'll say. We are currently mid-table, but we are aiming for a top 3 finish.’
