Buzz Around Hornets Increases

Fans and pundits alike are starting to warm to the Glory Hornets' pluck and determination, as they battled to a 3-1 victory over Spartans to extend their unbeaten streak to 4 matches.

With Hornets' captain Alex McQuillan out for 3 games with a fractured cheekbone, after Gianluigi Isolini of Grey Area's disgraceful elbowing incident that saw him receive his marching orders last week, the Hornets were expected to be a little shaken.

However deputy captain Wallace Baker filled his shoes superbly, delivering the opening goal with a swirling cross that was converted by a flying Toma Popadic (13') for his 6th of the season, and 4th in 4.

Spartans' troubles deepened when sub-keeper Albert Jorquera was forced to play in defence, after da Silva limped off. Then a penalty was conceded which was converted by the recently-returned Elliot Malloy (52'), for his first of a thus goalless season which had included a penalty miss against Alsancak.

Spartans attempted to rally when Obi Mikel (59') pulled one back, but Seth Eaves (67') completed a man-of-the-match performance with his first goal for the club, to deliver Hornets' third win in four.

Given that the only two defeats they have suffered in their last eight came during manager Greg Perkins' notoriously well-publicised bender at a music festival, there is a growing feeling that if Perkins can stay away from parties, and focus on his squad, a secure top-half finish may just be a possibility.

However, first they must survive the reverse fixture against the freshly-stung Spartans, who will doubtless be looking for revenge on their home turf.
