AJ Rovers 2 - 1 The Vikings

Viking Land News

Vikings lose again and form is low.

The Vikings lost another game and the resultant form drops are a major cause for concern.

The game started brightly and Rovers had the first chance as Atlee headed too close to Raasch. Irwin then saw a 9th minute header skim the bar as the Vikings showed attacking intent too. The opening goal was not too far away though. Gourmas slid a beautiful ball down the middle and Strachan saw the keeper in no mans land and scored for the Vikings with a beautiful lob. Tassiopoulos then shot over on 14 minutes as the Vikings pushed hard. The Vikings had control at this point and it looked like 2-0 after 22 minutes as Gourmas scored with a great header only to see it chalked off by an unskilled ref who thought he'd seen some shirt pulling. Strachan then chipped over on 31 as the Vikings dominated. Rovers did remind everyone they where in the game as Jarnoy shot over on 37, but the Vikings broke up the field and Papakostas chipped the ball over the goal. 0-1 half time but 2-5 on chances.

Into the second half. The Vikings then seemed to have settled for a 1 goal lead and this was to prove costly as Rovers equalised with their first effort of the second half. 81 minutes had gone when Vickerman headed home. The good old ref who had seen fit to chalk off a perfectly good Vikings goal earlier then decided to award Rovers a penalty for nothing, no contact, no foul! Jarnoy stepped up and slotted it home to give Rovers the lead. Worse was to come for the Vikings as midfielder Gourmas had to be taken from the field following a brutal challenge by Ocut. The ref again saw fit to only award a yellow card! The game then ended 2-1

Eaglesrjh was fuming at the ref after the game. "we had a perfectly good goal ruled out and then the penalty decision was a joke" stormed the manager "That said it's a 90 minute game not an 80 minute game and we switched off for the last 10 minutes and Rovers took advantage of that so credit to them. That last 10 minutes was probably the worst 10 minutes i've had as the manager here" We need to bounce back and win the double header round now to keep up the promotion push"
