Elvis Shakes Dutch

Totaalvoetbal slipped to another defeat as pressure on manager Robin Meeblind grew with his side slipping perilously close to the relegation zone. It might have been a different story had Cal Beardsley made more of an early half-volley or Pierre van Diemen had struck a shot on goal more accurately but as it turned out they were chasing the game from the 18th minute. A free-kick was tapped to Elvis MacCaran and he ripped the ball into the net for the opening goal.

Totaal should still have had parity at the break but van Diemen hit a penalty hopelessly to give New York a let-off and allowed them to keep their one goal lead intact.

The visitors were then shut-out during the second-half and New York might have scored through a Benjamin Folan volley before a penalty by MacCaran did double the lead.

The home side confidently played out the remainder of the game and left Totaal nervously looking over their shoulder at a relegation battle which has arrived on their doorstep.

Meeblind was obviously concerned:

"To be honest we haven't played too badly today considering certain factors," he began.

"However, the end result is no points and we are in a real battle for survival."
