Wortley moved out of the bottom three with a 2-1 success at The Kings. With the sides in similar relegation danger this contest was one neither could afford to lose but it was only wortley who would play with the relevant hunger. Brandon Hiller toe-poked an early effort wide before Rai Kike was denied by Fitzsimmons as the visitors started on the front foot. A free-kick would then see Paulinho Santos miss the target before Walter Willock did open the scoring with an excellent driving shot on 35 minutes. This would be enough for a half-time lead and they opened up after the break with a Kike toe-poke which went too close to the ‘keeper. Kike would then see a shot from a tight angle saved by Fitzsimmons and the ‘keeper would be on hand once more to deny Karl-Ingvar Gido’s lob attempt. A Santos free-kick would also go over before Adrian Heath stunned the visitors by shooting home from the home side’s first chance to level the game. Nevertheless, the visitors continued positively and Hiller lobbed in brilliantly to re-establish the lead. This would prove the last action of the game to the delight of Thegtreatlordbags. He now sees his side outside of the bottom three and will hope to back this performance up in their home match against Dream Team on Tuesday. Hitman will know his side are in trouble on the back of this performance and will demand better at Gooners next.
Juventus also slipped deeper into trouble as they fell to a 3-0 home defeat by FC Bayern Munchen. With the visitors forcing their way into the promotion mix Juve knew they were up against it in this contest and so it proved. Juve did force an early free-kick chance but Kristoffer Lindfors headed the resultant chance too close to Syvaluoma and they fell behind as Billy Bob thundered in a set-piece at the other end. Lindfors would narrowly miss with a shot from a tight angle before putting a bicycle kick well off-target as the home side looked for a way back in. Meanwhile, Marshall Mayhem struck a post with a flick header at the other end as Munchen continued to look dangerous. This continued in the second-half and Bob powered home a fine strike from distance to make it 2-0. Jacobo Chacros hit a free-kick against the bar to the frustration of the hosts and this deepened when Billy Ray Bongle headed in Munchen’s third on 81 minutes. It might have been worse but Mayhem’s header was tipped over by Tonetto. Dimentis will be growing increasingly more confident about promotion with each passing game and a home win against the Special Ones on Tuesday would only further this belief. SuperJuve will need to return to the helm quickly if his side are to escape the dreaded drop but things are not looking good.
Bully Boys would endure a frustrating evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven. Knowing that the chasing pack were breathing down their necks, Bully Boys knew a win was important to keep one step ahead but they came up against a determined visiting side. PSV enjoyed the first chance of the game but Iwan Balkaran’s diving header was saved by Kangashaka before Rory MacFinlay put a header off-target. The home response was a Curt Elliott shot which struck a post and the sides would go in deadlocked. The second-half began with Frans Haggbring having a back-heel saved for the visitors but they would then stun the home crowd with Ezequeil Avila shooting home from distance to put them in front. However, Aatu Vuokki would quickly chip in an equaliser for BB and they went in search of a winner. Valio Kapiala would strike a post with a powerful shot before he then put a free-kick on target only for Weston to save. Ultimately they would be frustrated with Cath moaning, ‘I hate how cruel this league is.’ Kadri was delighted with the result and declared that the season ‘is good so far.’
These Charming Men would remain level on points with the leaders as they drew 1-1 at home to Dream Team. With both sides harbouring promotion hopes neither wanted to give much away and the contest would prove an even one. Chano Delgado would toe-poke the hosts into an early lead and it might have been improved but Jorge Carril’s free-kick was stopped by Delirious. Ronaldo Ready would then level with a fine strike from distance on 33 minutes to silence the home crowd. They nearly had something to cheer about moments later, though, as Carril smacked the woodwork with a good free-kick before Delgado lobbed against the bar to continue the home side’s frustration. Adam Aspire would miss the target with a powerful shot for the visitors but they would still go in level at the break. Warren Wish began the second-half with a fine header for DT but it struck the woodwork and went safe. TCM would respond through Shaun McFadden but his lob went over the bar and Dudley Dream might have made them pay but saw a free-kick denied. A further free-kick would also be saved by Derksen before Carril’s set-piece at the other end hit the bar. Ultimately, though, the contest would see no further goals as both picked up a point apiece. RDCM declared himself ‘happy enough with that considering (their) form dropped like a rock last round.’ @peace will realise his side need wins as the battle for the top three heats up over the last five games.
Gooners kept hold of third but were held to a 2-2 draw by Special Ones MKII. With the sides needing points for differing reasons it was all to play for at Highbury and neither side would disappoint. Abou Diaby would find the net for the hosts with a well-placed shot following a corner but saw it disallowed due to offside. Sylvain Wiltord would put them in front on 17 minutes, though, with a fine header while Rick Tuttle missed with a back-heel at the other end. A free-kick on 44 minutes then saw Dennis Bergkamp’s effort held by Roberts but Gooners would still go in ahead. The second-half would be dramatic and saw Tuttle lob in the equaliser on 59 minutes. Gooners’ response was quick with Thierry Henry, in turn, lobbing home to restore their advantage. However, the visitors would not be denied and Robin Barratt struck clinically on 75 minutes to tie the contest once more. Gooners might still have pinched it in injury-time but Bergkamp’s free-kick was comfortably saved by Roberts and the sides had to settle for a point each. FMRealism was scathing at what he called an ‘amateurish’ approach to the game from their opponents. Meanwhile, Aj asked whether that was ‘special enough?’ following the game and the future is sure to be entertaining with him at the helm.
Crimea River and Abu Dhabi United were involved in a draw in the other game in the division. With both entertaining outside hopes of promotion they knew wins were all-important. A free-kick on 21 minutes saw Franklin Pepper thump Abu Dhabi in front. Tomas Rosicky would be similarly deadly at the other end as his header found the net and the sides would go in level at the break. The second-half saw both sides have the chance to win the contest; Potsdam Erplatz headed wide for the hosts before Vivien Tchameni saw a shot tipped over by Rossell. Abu Dhabi might have pinched the win late on but Erplatz narrowly missed with a header and a point was the best either side would go away with. Talinmer will be happy with his young side’s progress and with the change report looming this is an important time for the club. Ith will recognise his side need nothing but wins if they are to make a dramatic push for promotion and a home game against TCM is a tough start for them.
