Rolling Thunder kept up their fine run with a 2-0 away victory over Mighty Mojos. The Mojos did have an early chance but McArraway held comfortably from Terrance Norman’s header and the visitors would open the scoring on 20 minutes; Bojan Krkic heading in with some panache. They might have added a second but Krkic’s fine finish was irrelevant as he had strayed some yards offside. The Mojos through Abraham Axhorn also had a goal disallowed for offside as the score remained 1-0 to the visitors at the break. Thunder were impressive in the second-half with Erland Hangeland forcing Housham into an early save while Krkic shot narrowly wide moments later. Mojos did have a chance but Michel Montolio mishit his shot and the chance went begging. Marcel Holub would see a speculative half-volley saved by Housham before Krkic hit the bar with a fine lob. They did finally add their second goal in injury-time as John Obi Mikel showed a clinical touch in the penalty area to complete a fine afternoon’s work. Jimmy now has his side into third and in terrific form as he looks to bring the good times to the club. Spikyjamie seems to have left his club to their own devices and it is hard to see things improving while this remains the case.
Dream Team remained top despite being held to a 0-0 home draw against Gooners. DT had the better of the chances throughout the game with Garry Gain having an early header hit the woodwork. Raberg was forced into a save as Dudley Dream tried to lob a header over him before he also held safely from a Ronaldo Ready header. Gooners had their first chance on 28 minutes but Andres Iniesta’s lob unfortunately hit the angle. The home side were back on the attack immediately as Adam Aspire’s half-volley was kicked away by Raberg in goal. Gain would also waste a chance before half-time as he put his shot well-wide of the target. The second-half saw the hosts start well again with Ready heading against the angle with the first chance. Jim Hotte tried to pinch a goal for the visitors but it was saved by Delirious. DT would then go back on the front foot with Ready hitting a free-kick wide while Garry Greed also missed the target with a header. These misses proved costly as the visitors dug in to secure a well-earned point. MrJames put the lack of goals down to ‘his ‘keeper doing well’ before consoling himself that they are ‘still top.’ FMRealism said that his side had ‘showed respect’ before adding that his keeper had ‘done (them) proud.’
Wortley afc drew level on points with Dream Team as they defeated Morley Town in an exciting game at the western. Walter Willock forced Zubeldia into an early save from a lob before Morley forced chances at the other end; Florian Arnautu going close with a header before Gwilym Cullip thumped them into a ninth minute lead with a super shot. Jasper Marshfield ensured the lead would be a short one by completing a fine breakaway move with a cool finish. The visitors responded but Zacharias Ashe had a shot saved before a free-kick at the other end saw Paulinho Santos miss the target. Rai Kike would give wortley the advantage as he rounded the ‘keeper to deliver a 2-1 half-time lead to the home side. The second-half saw more chances with Morley equalising immediately thanks to an Ashe header. The game continued to ebb and flow as Santos saw a free-kick hit wood for the hosts while Helder Velez had a header saved at the other end. Brandon Hiller headed straight at Zubeldia as wortley searched for a winner and he would be rewarded with another header on 86 minutes which he powered into the goal for a 3-2 lead. Ashe had a volley at the other end but it went over and Morley’s chance had gone. Willock had a lob hit the angle while Santos demanded the best from Zubeldia as wortley looked the likelier to score again. As it was they had done enough to secure the points which keep up their impressive start to the season. Thegreatlordbags will be looking to continue in this fashion and win his first ever promotion with the club. Leeg21 will want his side to be more consistent as they also look to establish themselves in the top three this term.
Alsancak continued their development with another excellent success as they topped Jammas AllStars 4-1 at Mosquito Alley. In a dominant first-half display they took the lead early as Fraizer Campbell netted following a corner. A powerful header by Fabrice Muamba needed saving by Sherwood before Rory Burston was also denied by the cat. Campbell flicked a header over the bar before a mishit shot from Mark Noble deceived Sherwood to give the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead. The second-half saw an early John Burston shot make it 3-0 and then a penalty by his namesake Rory make it 4-0 and contest over. Campbell headed against the bar and Gabriel Baldwin hit a free-kick over as the chances kept coming. The AllStars did fight back late in the game and scored a penalty through Jed Tipton. Jake Ash would then waste a late headed chance as the visitors succumbed to a 4-1 defeat. Wienersnitzel’s side are now just a point off the top three as the table starts to take shape and there might be more than just development on the manager’s mind. Jamma continues to bring new players into his club and this will tell more of a tale of where they are going rather than current results.
EspAda put together another solid display to defeat FCR Cressex 4-1 at Huco Mundo. The first-half was a tight affair but an Andreas Sommer chip did give the home side a 23rd minute lead. Cressex thought they had levelled through Augusto Ferrazzoli but his strike was disallowed for offside which was dubious to say the least. EspAda improved after the break and put in a dominant performance. Diego Maradona headed in the second goal on 53 minutes and moments later Geoffrey Stiles went close with another header. Cressex did see Emil Rojas narrowly miss from a free-kick and they were soon 3-0 down as Andreas Sommer shot home in the penalty area. The lead was soon whittled down to two once more when Tomas Tiribocchi made a headed chance count but when Stiles hit home number four from distance the game was over as a contest. Vedin Sinanovic had a free-kick saved by Clooney while the ‘keeper also saved from Daniel Brewster. The home side would have another late chance but Sinanovic hit a free-kick over and they had to settle for a 4-1 victory. Malteseexpert now has his side moving in the right direction and confidence must be high ahead of their game against the AllStars on Tuesday. FCR Cressex will be eager to return to winning ways and will want to make the most of home advantage in their next game against the Hornets.
Glory Hornets warmed up for that particular clash with a 6-0 thumping of Norfolk N Chance at Yellow Brick Road. The Hornets certainly made the most of their chances as they scored six from their eight sights on goal in a one-sided contest. Burt Judd mishit an early shot past Clemens for the opening goal and the result was never in doubt. Judd then curled a more powerful effort against the outside of a post before Paolo Ballotta made it 2-0 with a precise finish after a breakaway move. 3-0 followed with Seth Eaves chipping the ‘keeper while Toma Popadic hit the ball through Clemens’ legs to make it 4-0 on the half-hour. Judd had a volley saved from distance before Eliott Malloy made it 5-0 with an excellent header. The second-half saw just one chance but it was enough to add another goal; Ballotta flicking a header home to complete the rout. GregPerkins will be pleased his side managed this win in his absence while Howemiester will continue to focus his troops on improving and then maintaining their form.
