Wortley Walk In Five

Wortley kept hold of first place in Division Three with a routine 5-0 victory over Jammas AllStars. In a one-sided game Spencer Knight had already had a toe-poke saved by Frezzolini before Brandon Hiller placed home the opener on 11 minutes following a rapid break. Rai Kike steered in number two on 14 minutes and a flick header by Walter Willock went just wide as the hosts dominated. Kike lobbed in the third on 20 minutes and a free-kick by Paulinho Santos nearly broke the net on 36. Quincy Bowey showed a clinical side to his game on 42 minutes to complete a first-half master-class by the league leaders. The second-half proved a mere formality as the sides resorted to just knocking the ball around; Wortley happy with their win and the AllStars keen not to suffer further damage. A trip to Thunder awaits Thegreatlordbags and his side and they will be keen to maintain their touch in front of goal as the season reaches the halfway point. Jamma will be assessing which players to keep and which will be on their way as the club grows under his leadership.

Morley continue to keep the pressure on at the top with a strong 2-0 away victory over Rolling Thunder. A first minute chance provided the opening goal for the visitors as Dustin Wotton headed home. Thunder would play their part in an open contest but Yiannis Koutsis’ header was tipped over by Zubeldia while Wotton’s chip was theatrically saved at the other end. The home side continued to see openings themselves and Ludo Cappellacci was desperately unlucky as his powerful shot brushed a post. Florian Arnautu put a header over for the visitors while Gwilym Cullip’s shot was turned away by McArraway and the sides went in with just the one goal separating them. Thunder saw Benjamin Unesson miss a headed chance while Wotton was denied by the ‘keeper at the other end. Morley would finish the stronger as Helder Velez put a header against the bar before seeing his free-kick stopped by the legs of the ‘keeper. Art Boyle did make it 2-0 with a clever flick header and although John Obi Mikel went close at the other end the visitors had done enough to secure victory. Leeg21 will now be focusing on six points in the double-header with Alsancak as they look to make the turn in the season in first place. Jimmy admitted that their ‘horrible run continues’ while wondering ‘what has happened’ to his team. The fans retain faith that the talented manager will turn things round soon, though.

Dream Team complete the top three and were in fine form in a 5-2 success at FCR Cressex. It would be their superior finishing that would win the day as both sides created eight chances in an open game. An Adam Aspire drive opened the scoring for the visitors on three minutes before Garry Gain powered in a shot which needed catching by Ikhala on 16 minutes. Emil Rojas had the hosts’ first chance of the day but his header went over before Carsario Falcioni also had trouble directing a headed chance. Garry Gain placed in a shot to make it 2-0 on 22 minutes and a free-kick by Dudley Dream needed saving by the ‘keeper. Lauro Poggi headed over for the hosts while Douglas Wallberg demanded a reflex save from Delirious as they struggled in front of goal. Aspire would then make it 3-0 with an excellent volley and it would be 4-0 as Warren Wish thumped in a low long range shot. Cressex had a response after the break but Cabbar Saatcioglu shot off-target with their first chance. He would pull a goal back moments later, though, as he lobbed a header over Delirious. Dominik Brno fuelled hopes of a comeback with a fine header but Wallberg’s powerful shot smashed against the bar and their belief seemed to ebb away. The visitors added a further goal as Gain placed home a nice shot and he was only centimetres away from a hat-trick as his header went just wide. MrJames will want his defence to tighten up but his side are where he would want them to be at this stage and no less than six points against the AllStars will be his aim. Villan_RAS will be looking for his players to find some form in the second-half of the season following a disappointing first ten matches.

Gooners hung onto their unbeaten record following a tough examination at Alsancak. Kyle Lang’s powerful shot was easily held by Cirkovic before he chipped against the angle as the visitors started the better. Despite this it would be Alsancak who would strike the front thanks to a brilliant free-kick by Gabriel Baldwin just before the break. Miles Beckett missed the chance to double the lead after the interval as he side-footed high over the bar and they paid for this miss as Broderick Shilton toe-poked home following a corner. Lang was denied by the ‘keeper before they found themselves behind once more as Rory Burston made no mistake from the spot. Gooners showed great resilience, though, and Sonny Baron put the finishing touch to an excellent counter. Baldwin would have a free-kick saved by Lima while Eoghan Millar lobbed over as the hosts couldn’t force a winning goal. FMRealism called the game ‘sketchy’ but hailed his young ‘keeper for his character after an indifferent display. Wienersnitzel’s side continue to show great promise and are nicely tucked into mid-table ahead of the turn.

1863 Munich recorded an important win under Anderson’s leadership as they edged EspAda 2-1 at home. Turlough Daly put a header wide before Toma Popadic’s bicycle-kick was saved by Kerrigan as the home side started on the front foot. Allan Bound had the visitors’ first chance but it wouldn’t trouble Blacksmith and the sides went in goalless. Paolo Ballotta put a header against a post before Daly toe-poked home the opener for the hosts on 53 minutes. A minute later and Ballotta had doubled the advantage with an excellent header to leave EspAda reeling. Diego Maradona chipped over as they searched for a response and the forward would also smash a shot wide as frustration grew. Vedin Sinanovic would then hit a free-kick straight at Blacksmith who would also save well from Maradona’s next shot. Daly would waste a headed chance at the other end and Zihni Demiray set up a tense finale with a clinical finish on 80 minutes for EspAda. They couldn’t force any more openings, though, and the home side held on for a much-needed win. Anderson called it ‘a tight game’ but the result was just ‘what the team needed.’ Malteseexpert’s side are stuck in the middle of the table and the second-half of the campaign will be about planning for a stronger season next time out.

Mighty Mojos took advantage of a home game against Norfolk to record their first win under Joshy85’s leadership. Timotei Buta shot in from distance for the opener on three minutes before Ferdinand Quinn had a header saved. Terrance Norman put his shot wide before Ronald Stoneman got his effort completely wrong as the home side put pressure on Norfolk. Norman would make it 2-0 on 21 minutes by steering in a clever shot before Buta side-footed in the third on 34. Norman flicked a header wide before the break but they could be satisfied with their three-goal lead at the break. Phillip Williams toe-poked wide at the start of the second-half while Buta was denied by Olausson. Norman would make it 4-0 on the hour, though, with a shot after a corner and Ronald Stoneman placed home the fifth on 73 minutes as the Mojos began improving their goal difference. Norman was in the right place to pinch a sixth on 85 minutes to complete a personal hat-trick and to ensure the fans would go home happy. Joshy was obviously happy with his side’s win which he explained was the ‘biggest of the day.’ Howemiester will be used to days like these and will no doubt experience more before the season’s end.
