Young Guns State Their Case

Gooners got off to a flying start in division two versus PSV, with a team that was in the coaches own words a bit of a gamble and very much an unknown force. Never could he have expected the performance he got from his young players. Gooners played a mix of experience, youth and new faces but the team performed as if they had all been playing together for many a season. The performance that stood out in a crowd of stars was the one of young Fabregas, he has played in important fixtures during pre-season and looked dangerous but in his league debut he was on another level and bagged two fantastic goals!

Young Fabregas was bought with next season in mind and to add the missing peice of the puzzle in a midfield alongside Lang and Bergkamp but apparently Cesc has other plans and has already stated a big case to make every starting eleven. Bergkamp had much admiration for the young player and said he is a dream to work with and always eager to listen and very much out to impress in his first season. Berkamp himself was amazing and Gooners will be happy to have him now under a long term contract after there was much interest in him during the pre-season.

Yes the game was against PSV and a win was expected but it was the sheer force of the Gooners attack and workrate which will have impressed the boss the most. With important players leaving and the dressing room re-balanced it was more a game to see how the team would react and to see wether they had a side strong enough to mount another dominating run of games this season. The signs were all there for everyone to see, the players gave everything in a game they could have easily won with fifty percent of what they put into it.

It was a game in which Bergkamp and Fabregas ran the show, Bergkamp has been something of a legend in the RMI and he doesnt look like he going to take his foot off the gas anytime soon! For the first goal he combined with Fabregas to grab an assist, he then went on to score two himself and for the fourth goal and killer blow to PSV he linked well with Fabregas again. Bergkamp is a player that has set records already and looks like he could set a few more with performances like this! In only his first game of the season he already leads all the tables with two assists and two goals. PSV did manage to grab a rare goal in a Gooners home game and the final score was 4 -1 but even their goal couldnt take the shine off a magnificent performance from the new look Gooners. The fans were in full song during the game and it would seem that FMR had their full backing after last seasons upset, they also very much agreed with the type of young players he want to bring to the club and chants of "We've got Cesc Fabregas" were sung long after the game had ended.

Heres what the manager had to say after his sides win:

We are more than pleased with our first result and you always want to get off to a winning start, but the performance means more than the win ever could. All i asked of my players today was that they showed me we are just as strong if not stronger than last season and that the Gooners mentality was strong as ever! I must admit even i was shocked by some of the performances today, alot of these players are still very early in their progression to the first team but today they looked very dangerous indeed. I thought we may struggle a little this season whilst bringing through so many young talents but instead many of them are already knocking on the first team door and competition for places is always a healthy thing.

Whilst everyone is talking about Fabregas and understandably so, there were many young players that impressed me today... Wiltord, Bould, Pires and of course Fabregas, they made up half of the outfield players today and our bench wasnt looking to shabby either. Although happy as we are and can take alot of confidence from the game, I must also urge everyone to remember that was only the first game in a very long season with much tougher opposition to come. The next game is a very important one for us with a tricky visit to Bayern, if we can grab all three points there in a convnicing fashion, then it is more than possible for us to put another run together and again be the team thats feared in this division.

As i said the game against Bayern is a very tricky one and will require our strongest eleven, this will include Rocastle who has yet to play a competitive match since signing and is something of an unkown quantity. Although i feel the midfield gives us some good tactical options and if used correctly will see us score many goals this season! The only player issues we have currently is Seaman still recovering form after being injured in the Reggae game and neither keeper is fully fit yet, we hope this situation is resolved by the next fixture. This is very much a team that will hit its peak in a season or two, the objective is to get these players you saw today into division one next season on schedule.
