Bully Boys FC took advantage of slip-ups elsewhere to hit the top of Division Two following a 4-2 success at PSV Eindhoven. With PSV needing the points for differing reasons to BB the end result would be a scintillating display of attacking football. Sjunne Wenna would get the Boys off to a brilliant start with an excellent diving header to put the visitors in front. However, the hosts would reply with a Rene Maslovsky penalty which he despatched with a minimum of fuss. The game continued at a frantic pace with Dominic Smythe having a steered shot saved by Weston before Sakari Reimari missed the target from a free-kick. Tero Perotie was the next to try his luck for Cath’s side but his header was also off-target while Wenna also flicked a header wide. Berti Behrends would have the Boys back in front on 27 minutes with a fine header and moments later Perotie had a header saved by the ‘keeper. Rory MacFinlay nearly stunned the visitors with a brilliant lob but Tolvanen tipped it over and the home side would remain behind at the break. Iwan Balkaran would drive a shot wide to start the second-half while Reimari had a shot go close at the other end. Arjen van Loenhout would waste a headed chance for the hosts but they remained in touch as Weston saved from a Perotie header. Bully Boys would then see Behrends lob over but they did take a grip on the game when Toini Vasama defied a tight angle to blast home and double their advantage. However, PSV’s response was swift and a powerful low shot by Iwan Balkaran had them back within one on 80 minutes. Bully Boys wouldn’t panic, though, and a lob header by Perotie made it 4-2 on 90 minutes to put the seal on an excellent win. Cath admitted he ‘got lucky with those tactics’ but declared himself ‘happy’ and added ‘results around the division went my way too.’ Kadri will be proud of his side’s display and the future appears bright with his squad of players.
Gooners conceded a late equaliser as they were held at Futsal in a 2-2 draw. After suffering a defeat last time out Gooners were looking to get back on track against free-scoring Futsal. Cesc Fabregas put the first shot of the game over the bar before Dennis Bergkamp did put Gooners in front with a fine header. Gooners continued to dominate the first-half and had further chances; Iain Wright putting a free-kick off-target before David Rocastle put his effort too close to Roberts. The second-half would see both sides look for goals in what proved a fabulous 45 minutes. Rowley Forrester hit a wild free-kick to begin with for the hosts while Fabregas’ steered shot was well-held by Roberts at the other end. Ricky Routhledge would put a driving shot too close to Seaman and Rocastle would head at Roberts as the chances continued to be shared. Futsal would level on 66 minutes courtesy of a driving shot by Graeme Haynes and Forrester had a free-kick chance but could only put it straight at Seaman. Gooners did respond and a Bergkamp header brought the best out of Roberts before Wright did put them back in front with a cracker from distance. Bergkamp might have sealed the win with a precise header but it drifted just wide and the home side would fight back. Routhledge put a powerful low shot just wide and Wright was unlucky at the other end with a shot which struck a post. Futsal would then strike with Forrester delivering a textbook free-kick to rescue a great point for Wildy’s side. They have seen their start to the season be a little inconsistent but they have shown they can compete with anyone and will look for three points against wortley on Friday. FMRealism wasn’t disappointed and said ‘every point away from home counts.’
These Charming Men were also involved in a 2-2 draw as they were held at Dream Team. With Dream Team struggling to live up to early season expectations These Charming Men will have travelled in good heart. Loran Rajabi boosted the visitors as well as he shot home clinically in the area on six minutes but they were soon pegged back as Adam Aspire headed in at the other end. Mil Moody had a shot stopped by Derksen as the home side looked to hit the front in an open game. Jordi Rodri would have a chance at the other end but he too would be denied by the ‘keeper as Delirious made a fine stop. The second-half saw the game continue apace with Mauricio Capdevila putting TCM back in front on 52 minutes as he shot home from inside the area. Tord Jakobson then put a header narrowly wide while Ronaldo Ready hit a free-kick straight at Derksen at the other end. Aspire would level for the home side with a good header on 66 minutes to put the game back in the melting pot. TCM looked for a winner with Rajabi demanding a good save from Delirious with a lobbed effort while Rodri’s driving shot was also stopped by the ‘keeper. Shaun McFadden would then see a header held by Delirious and Rajabi would complete a TCM onslaught by brushing a post with a powerful low shot. Dream Team then tried to pinch a win but Garry Gain’s diving header was kicked away by Derksen and a point apiece was the end result. RDCM rued his decision to ‘play offensive away’ but hailed a ‘respectable result.’ @peace will know this point was a good one but will also recognise the need for wins as his side look to make ground at the top of the table.
The Kings edged an exciting game at the western as they defeated wortley afc 3-2. Coming off an impressive win against Gooners, The Kings were hopeful of another three points but were made to work hard by an attacking home side. The Kings began strongly with Otis Dove rounding the ‘keeper to slot home on two minutes. Wortley’s response was a Paulinho Santos free-kick which went over before Dove had an effort blocked by Gareth at the other end. Rai Kike would hit a soft shot at Fitzsimmons before the ‘keeper made a better save by tipping over a Curt Pryor lob. Wortley began well after the break but Curt Pryor’s shot was saved by the ‘keeper. They would then see Walter Willock chip over the bar but they would get a fortuitous equaliser as Pryor mishit a shot past Fitzsimmons. Dove’s response would be to chip over at the other end and wortley then took the lead courtesy of a powerful strike by Kike. Jamie Sinclair headed wide at the other end but Juve would be boosted by a red to Orlando Bhoendie for a crude tackle from behind. The Kings would then win a penalty which was duly converted by Fitzsimmons and they then pinched the points as Kevin Sheedy placed home a beautiful finish deep into injury-time. Hitman will be ecstatic with the points and with a home game against Dream Team to come they will be hopeful of pushing further up the table. Thegtreatlordbags is seeing his wortley side struggle in a higher division and they need three points against Futsal next up.
FC Bayern Munchen continue to be upwardly mobile after a 3-1 home success over Juventus. Riding a three-game unbeaten run going into the game Bayern were hopeful of home advantage being a key factor against an inconsistent Juve side. Gunther Westerville nearly gave them a first minute lead but his lob hit the bar and went safe. Chuck Ewing would give them the lead, though, with a fine header on 15 minutes before Sam Jakestown volleyed them into a two-goal lead on 18 minutes. Juve’s first chance came on 37 but Kristoffer Lindfors couldn’t find the net with a powerful strike while Ewing hit a post at the other end after beating Tonetto. Tonetto would save a curled shot from Uncle Sam before the break but Juve went into the sheds with it all to do. They came out strongly after the break, though, and a fine strike in the area by Joaquin Messi quickly pulled a goal back. Jacobo Chacros then gave the home side a scare by thumping a free-kick against a post as Juve threatened to turn the game round. Jakestown would settle home nerves, though, with a clinical finish in the area on 64 minutes and a penalty should have made it four but Tonetto saved by Billy Bob. Ewing would then smash a header off a post but it proved irrelevant as the home side held on for the points. Dimentis will be looking towards the top three now but they face a test of their promotion credentials as they travel to Bully Boys on Friday. SuperJuve sees his side slump into the relegation zone and they too have a tough task on Friday as they take on Gooners.
Crimea River were 2-0 winners in the other game of the division as they left Abu Dhabi pointless. Both sides were looking to get back to winning ways and ultimately it would be the home side who would edge an attacking game. Carl Spegel lobbed the first chance of the game over before Jamie Hayes hit the bar with his effort at the other end. A penalty gave Abu Dhabi the chance to take the lead but Fabianski saved comfortably from Claudio Moura’s effort and the sides went in goalless. Crimea would begin the second-half the stronger of the two sides and Alan Smith headed them in front on 50 minutes. Hayes tried to respond but headed straight at Fabianski and Andrey Arshavin nearly made it two but Bonner made a smart save from his free-kick. Crimea would then miss a penalty of their own as Thomas Vermaelen smashed over while Arshavin hit a free-kick over. Samir Nasri would see a half-volley held by Bonner but Spegel would put them two ahead as he fired home in the area. Regillio Jordan saw red for the visitors to make their task harder and Jonathan Boulding had a free-kick saved. Abu Dhabi still pushed but Ilppo Visavuori’s precise header was brilliantly saved by Fabianski and the home side collected the points. Ith explained that ‘the game had everything’ and was happy ‘to be back on track.’ Talinmer bemoaned the referee who punished his side for every challenge and admitted a rethink might be in order with similar referees in the future.
