Miquel the Match Winner against Cats

Totaalvoetbal overcame ThunderCats in a battle of former champions last Friday.

A tight game was settled by a Miquel Oriol strike on 26 minutes to maintain Totaalvoetbal’s promising start to the campaign.

Oriol, in particular, has been in excellent form and the defender explained his thought process behind his recent upsurge:

‘I think the defence as a whole got a big boost when the manager brought in Cruz,’ opened the maturing defender.
‘It’s no secret at the end of last season we went through a difficult time due to our lack of experience. The manager told us that it would stand us in good stead and so it has proven.

‘Now we have Jaap combining with Cal at the heart of the defence it has taken some pressure of the younger guys and it is, therefore, easier to express yourself knowing they will cover your mistakes so brilliantly.’

Not that there has been many mistakes from a guy putting up such superb numbers. We asked what his and the team’s goals are for the rest of the season:

‘I think improvement on last season is the first step. We were so disappointing but we have strengthened in all areas and become tougher mentally.

‘At the minute everything is going well so personally I just want to continue my performances, stay in the team and keep some clean sheets. The rest will then take care of itself.’
