Morley Town continued to live up to pre-season expectations with an impressive 2-0 win at Anime Allstars FC. Morley were the more progressive side with the ball during the contest and always looked the more threatening side. Florian Arnautu fired an early warning with a driving shot on goal and Adolf Munzberg then tested Sapienza in goal with a decent free-kick. Johnny Douglas was presented with an opportunity for the hosts but the shot was mishit and the chance passed. This would prove costly as a header by Arnautu at the other end gave Morley a deserved half-time lead. Zacharias Ashe very nearly made it 2-0 at the start of the second-half but his powerful header smashed against the bar while Colin Crouch’s header was tipped over at the other end. Asuna Kaguarazakaa did get in another shot for Anime but Gaughan showed fine handling to stop the danger. Morley were then back on the attack and a diving header by Gwilym Cullip went just over before Munzberg wasted a free-kick chance. The second goal would arrive, though, as Ashe timed his run perfectly to meet a cross and flick home a header. Morley News reported a ‘dominant 2-0 win’ and added that it was ‘built on a strong defensive performance.’ Joshy was honest in his appraisal saying that because ‘a lot of new faces have come into the club (he) highly doubts (they) will play any part in the promotion race.’
AFC Boo Boys also made it a maximum six points after two games but were made to work for it by an ever improving Crimson Tigers (Norfolk). The contest was always in the balance as both sides created some good openings in the game. The first of which fell to Miroslav Burkhart but his attempted chip was theatrically gathered by Ersberg in the home goal. Michal Handzus wasted the hosts’ first chance of the game by heading wide but a lob by Ferran Roteta did have them 1-0 ahead on the half-hour. Ersberg was called into action to protect the lead with a fine leg save from a drive by Dante Allegri and Andy Howe was also denied by the ‘keeper's fine positional sense. The second-half saw another even contest and Zoli Denes levelled the scores with an excellent half-volley from a set-piece move. Lennox McCarroll responded in perfect style for the hosts by thumping home from distance just nine minutes later as the game continued to produce quality. Crimson were nearly level for a second time but Burkhart’s toe-poke hit the bar and went safe. Boo Boys might have made the score look a little more flattering but Ross Scott’s header was saved and the final score would be 2-1 to the home side. Skoolyou will be more than happy with his side’s start and they will look to take this form with them on the road as they travel to Cressex on Friday. Paul explained that he ‘can deal with the loss’ but was bemused how he got ‘manager of the round for losing.’
Rolling Thunder recorded their first win of the season with a solid 3-0 away success at Tottenham Hotspur. Thunder always looked to have the edge over their inexperienced opponents and Jovan Gagic had them in front on 24 minutes via a powerful long range strike. Niko Kranjcar had a header held by Jorquera before Tomas Master hit a free-kick over as Tottenham tried to respond. Gagic nearly stopped them in their tracks, though, as he slotted home but his goal was disallowed for offside. Erland Hangeland did add the second goal after the break by shooting home from inside the area and Francois Rouland would have made it three but for a decent save by Gomes. Ludo Cappellacci was the next to try his luck but he missed the goal by a fraction while John Obi Mikel also missed the target with his powerful strike. Spurs briefly rallied but Kranjcar had a shot saved by Jorquera and the visitors assumed control once more. Rouland shot wide again but the third goal duly arrived as Gagic produced a superb diving header to defeat Gomes and leave Spurs beaten. Vehusheia will have pleased with his side’s professional display and will be looking for more of the same against Munich next time out. Ocs explained his side’s problem lied in not ‘starting the game well nor putting them under enough pressure.’
Alsancak also recorded their first three-point haul of the season with an entertaining 3-2 win at 1863 Munich. The game would be explosive from the moment Stephane Aoudou thumped home a free-kick in the first minute. Gabriel Agbonlahor nearly had the visitors level but Zinnari stopped his lob effort although the ‘keeper could do nothing to prevent Fraizer Campbell from rounding him and levelling on six minutes. Mark Noble completed the turnaround on 12 minutes with a fine flick header to put the visitors ahead and Cirkovic protected the lead by saving well from an Aoudou low shot. Rory Burston extended the visitor’s lead on 17 minutes with a clever back-heel and although Seth Eaves went close for the hosts they kept this two-goal lead until the break. Munich did pull a goal back on 72 minutes as Paolo Ballotta toe-poked home to set up a tense finale. Lee Cattermole wasted a chance for Alsancak but Munich couldn’t capitalise although Aoudou did strike the woodwork with a fine free-kick just before time. Ultimately the points belonged to Winersnitzel’s side and following an unbeaten start to the season there seems to be little slowing in their progress. Anderson will be eager for his Munich side to put their first points on the board but he will recognise that they are not a million miles away after two competitive games to start the season.
EspAda put together a scintillating attacking display to leave St Omer beaten 6-1 at Huco Mundo. Diego Maradona lobbed an early effort against the bar before Zihni Demiray did open the scoring by shooting through the legs of Rain. Omer’s response was a decent effort by Rutger Graflund before Maradona went close again at the other end. Andrea Gualco did drive in the second on 12 minutes and the same player added the third with another powerful strike seven minutes later. Demiray powered in another on 23 minutes as the hosts threatened to run amok. Rain did prevent Andreas Sommer from adding a fifth while Norbert Rauscher thrashed an effort wildly off-target in a rare foray forward for Omer. Maradona would go close again before the break as the home side went into the sheds completely dominant. Omer would surprisingly strike first after the interval as Joseph Scheepens finished from a tight angle. Gualco hit a lob high over and Maradona wasted yet another chance as EspAda struggled to find their finishing touch. Sommer would make it 5-1, though, with a driving shot through Rain. Maradona would see a header go off-target before Geoffrey Stiles did lob home to make it 6-1 on 78 minutes. This proved the final act of the game and Crismorena had overseen his first win in charge of his new side. Another home match against RRS on Friday gives them the chance to follow up with three more points and these are sure to be exciting times for EspAda. Such a defeat isn’t new to ConyTottee and he will take it in his stride as he fights to keep his side in fine form throughout the season.
Reggae Reggae Sauce put in yet another disappointing display to come away with nothing from a 2-0 home reverse to FCR Cressex. Emil Rojas lobbed in early for the visitors who never really looked in any danger in the contest. Tomas Tiribocchi flicked a header wide before Fernando Ronaldo briefly threatened for the hosts but Martinzon pushed his effort round a post. Lauro Poggi powered another effort wide for the visitors and they were good value for their half-time lead. The second-half saw Cressex set about putting the game to bed with Ubaldo Andre only being denied by an excellent Mullen save. Andre would get his goal, though, as he flicked a header beyond the ‘keeper to double their lead. Franciszek Kamiski did hit the woodwork with a steered effort and Terry Jenkins had a free-kick held by Martinzon but it was too little too late for a beleaguered home side. It remains to be seen where Xpertelevener and his side can go from here but things don’t look promising for the long-suffering fans. Villan_RAS, meanwhile, has his season underway and they now look to take on the perfect AFC Boo Boys in an important game on Friday.
