Glory Hornets put in an excellent away display to take three points at The Champs. Things hadn’t begun according to the script for Mucca’s boys as they fell behind to an 18th minute Bruce Collinge header. What they managed to do, though, was stick to the game-plan and were soon to be back level. It came following a corner from Eustace North and ended with Neo Rivers heading in virtually unmarked. Chances were at a premium during the opening 45 minutes but those that did come were being put away unerringly. The third chance brought with it the third, and ultimately decisive, goal as Eliott Malloy connected well with his shot from distance and beat Irving to give the visitors the half-time lead. The second-half was largely dominated by the Hornets and it, perhaps, came as a surprise that they didn’t add to their 2-1 lead. It proved enough and the three points took the Hornets into second on 16 points. Meanwhile, Wylie admitted that he wasn’t sure whether The Champs were in for a battle at the bottom or ‘a push for promotion’ due to it being ‘a very close league.’
Wandsworth kept their winning feeling going with a 1-0 success at Portsmouth. The game proved to be a big test of Wandsworth’s credentials as Portsmouth pushed them all the way, enjoying the majority of ball and the same amount of chances. Unfortunately for Pompey, fate seemed to have it in for them as they lost Marzuki Nugraha to an injury which will keep him out until May 9th. Worse was to follow as the game slipped out of their grasp as time ebbed away. As the clock struck 90 minutes Wandsworth launched a breakaway move which culminated with Darcy Hording finishing well after being put through by Mirciulica Bardes. The goal saw wild celebrations in the visiting end with the realisation that they have now won nine out of nine and gone eleven points clear. Portsmouth slipped down the table as a result of the heart-breaking defeat but can look at the positive of only being one point behind the second-placed Hornets.
Alsancak F.C remain in the mix with a strong 4-1 home defeat of wortley afc. It was a massive show of strength from the home team as they set about the visitors despite conceding the first goal after 15 minutes to Walter Willock. The hosts took this setback in their stride and were to pull level through the inspirational Brad Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh, with his confidence surging, put them ahead on 33 minutes with a cracking long range effort. Alsancak were to make it 3-1 before half-time and it was no more than they deserved with Kenny Acton firing in. They remained firmly in the driving seat after the interval against an out-of-sorts wortley and put some gloss on the score with nine minutes remaining as Samuel del Valle added a goal to his superb display. Wienersnitzel was delighted with the win and added that ‘today’s performance from the midfield was outstanding.’ Many more displays like this and promotion will become more a likelihood than a possibility. The visitors slip to sixth following the heavy defeat and will hope it’s a mere blip as they look forward to welcoming The Posh.
The Posh will not be looking forward to that particular encounter as confidence will be low following a 5-0 home thrashing at the hands of These Charming Men. It was a ruthless performance from RDCM’s men as they shut out The Posh with a minimum of fuss while creating chance after chance at the other end. It looked for a while, however, that they might not get their rewards as they struggled for the opening goal. Eventually it came through the shape of Mauricio Capdevilla who shot home when well-placed in the area. With the pressure now off TCM let fly in the last ten minutes with Juan Pablo Castellano (2), Tord Jakobson and Chano Delgado all finding the net to leave their hosts demoralised. While The Posh remain down amongst the dead-men TCM continue to go from strength to strength with RDCM insisting that they ‘must maintain (our) momentum and try to break into the top 3.’ With this form no-one dares to suggest they can’t.
Josef09’s last game in charge before taking over Mexican Mafia ended in delight as the London Gunners won 3-0 at managerless Chelsea. The result came as no surprise with the home side devoid of ideas and leadership as well as being incredibly youthful. The visitors still had to do a professional job, though, and did just that with Jonny Accrington heading them in front on 31 minutes. The second-half brought two more goals as the Gunners confirmed their superiority. Ernst Thunman shot home on 58 minutes after a corner and then headed in on 88 to complete a 3-0 victory. The three points lifts the side into fifth and in good shape for incoming manager Moonboy5. Chelsea eagerly await Jamma’s return as with the lack of training their youth plan could be scuppered before it’s gotten into full swing.
Northwich Victoria and Grey Area slugged out a dour goalless draw in the day’s other game. Grey Area didn’t manage to muster any attacking threat all afternoon and with the hosts not faring much better in creating just three chances, excitement was at a premium for supporters. It came as no surprise to hear the respective man-of-the-matches going to defenders on a day to forget for both clubs. Carfin was unmoved by the display, hailing the ‘organisation and renewed determination’ that he has brought to the team. Fans will agree and hope that they will also add goals to the mix when they meet Chelsea next. Northwich Victoria remain a tough proposition for anyone but will hope to add a couple of wins on the bounce to move up the table.
