Jekyll On Spot for Alsancak

Alsancak F.C picked up a superb 4-1 away win at wortley afc to remain in the top three and open the gap between the two sides to five points. A close match-up on paper never really materialised as Alsancak were able to assert a level of control throughout. The opening to the game was a tale of two penalties as Max Jekyll slotted in for the visitors while Curt Pryor will have wanted to hide as he was guilty of a bad miss for wortley just three minutes later. This seemed to inspire the visitors and following a second goal by Eliott Burbank the outcome was never in doubt. The second-half was a comfortable affair as Alsancak looked secure in their 2-0 lead. Burbank added a third after being set through by Samuel del Valle and, on 68 minutes, it was 4-0 as Albert Scully converted from close range following a corner. Pryor did manage to get himself on the score-sheet on 80 minutes but it didn’t make up for his early penalty miss and proved little consolation for the hosts. Wienersnitzel’s side have a one point lead over Glasgow in fourth and, with an impressive goal difference, may take some stopping in their quest for promotion. The defeat may prove costly for wortley as it saw them slip five points adrift of the business places, a gap which Thegreatlordbags will want to close quickly.

These Charming Men maintained their hold on second spot as they saw off the improving Dream Team 2-1. A slow start ultimately cost the visitors as they found themselves 2-0 down after just 19 minutes. Jordi Rodri opened the scoring with a nicely taken penalty on 16 minutes and just three minutes later a header from Linus Streicher had TCM in the comfort zone. They could have stretched their lead before the interval but they were guilty of missing chances, as were Dream Team who squandered their two openings also. The second-half was much tighter with neither side being able to build any concerted pressure. Dream Team did pull one back in the 85th minute as Jack Lightbody scored only his second goal of the season by finishing off a breakaway. TCM held out for the win despite this goal and manager RDCM was pleased with ‘a good result.’ Despite allowing his side to celebrate their win with ‘a glass of Kaliber’ no less, RDCM was already eyeing their next game with Alsancak which he described as ‘yet another 6 pointer.’ MrJames felt his side ‘could have won’ but was upbeat and spoke of needing ‘a few more weeks to shape’ them.

Wandsworth FC eased to a 3-0 win over Portsmouth to remain on course to clinch the Division Three title with games to spare. An early Darcy Hording header sent them on their way and with Rowley Forrester hitting in a magical free-kick on 17 minutes the writing was already on the wall for Pompey. It was an action-packed game in truth as when their wasn’t a chance being created, referee Dick Tator was throwing yellow cards around like confetti, booking eight players in total. Somehow, the visitors managed to create four chances in a below-par display but their lack of sharpness ended up costing them at both ends of the field. Freddy Kennedy finally added goal number three for Wandsworth with a long range shot and, with a clean-sheet secured at the other end, the points were safe. The only problem remaining for LotharIstvan will be to keep his side motivated as they continue to sweep all before them. Portsmouth, meanwhile, have seen their hopes of promotion disappear but will be pleased Lewis has now reappeared from his magical mystery tour.

Glasgow City put in a solid home display to defeat Here For The Beer FC 3-0 to go within a point of the promotion spots. HFTB struggled from the get-go as Howemiester looks to get this season over with as quickly as possible and progress his side during the change and silly-season. A 27th minute opener by Petrus Normqvist had Glasgow in front and, with no realistic threat at the other end, they camped out in the visitor’s half for long periods. Dan Parkinson made it 2-0 with a fine strike on 53 minutes and five minutes later Normqvist added his second of the game with a well-placed header. Normqvist’s personal display will have delighted Moonboy but HFTB also had an outstanding performer in Nicholas Nosworthy. Indeed, if it wasn’t for the ‘keeper the defeat could have been much greater. While Glasgow sit just a point off third-place, Here For The Beer still await their first point of the campaign but, as mentioned previously, their minds will be concentrated on other things.

Top of the form table are Grey Area and they enjoyed another successful day as they defeated Northwich Victoria at Doon The Park. In a wild game of attacking football chances were never far away. Most of these would arrive in the second-half, though, as gaps began to open up even more due to the frantic pace of proceedings. Garth Rossall was the first to take advantage of the extra space as he was given too much time to fire in from distance. Allan Bound added two headers as Grey Area turned their advantage in terms of possession into goals. Reidar Knutsen did pull a goal back following a corner but that was as good as it got for the dispirited visitors. Carfin, while pleased with the victory, spoke of the game being ‘all over the place’ and may want his team to tighten up in giving away so many chances. Nevertheless, they are gradually making their way up the table and their ambitions may just become loftier as the matches pass by. Northwich have nothing to play for other than their form as they look for a better second season in the RM leagues.

Glory Hornets and The Champs met in what proved to be a tight tussle at Yellow Brick Road. With both sides still harbouring hopes of winning promotion it came as little surprise that there was to be few chances in the game. What chances did arrive, though, fell to Glory Hornets as they made home advantage count. The key moment came on 54 minutes following a spell of quick passing. Raphael Dearden received the ball before playing in Burt Judd who displayed a calmness belying his years to beat Irving and put the hosts 1-0 up. Try as they might, The Champs just could not put anything together attacking-wise and fell to defeat. The result leaves both sides on 23 points and with everything to play for as they are just three points off Alsancak in third.
