Viking Land News
Vikings back to winning ways. The Vikings won this game but in truth Kirkbride might feel they had done enough to deserve something.
The Vikings started brightly and Almadis saw a 7th minute freekick blocked by the keeper. The Vikings were then awarded a 12th minute penalty as Portway was felled in the box. Papakostas stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to put the Vikings ahead. Crouch then doubled the lead on 14 as he headed in a cross by Strachan. At this point the Vikings looked to be in complete control but MacAvery showed that Kirkbride were still going to attack and headed well wide on 15. Sinoda then hit a 20th minute shot that young keeper Sampson held onto easily. Machlachlan then headed wide on 23 as Kirkbride showed good fight. Crouch then had a good header saved on 28 as the Vikings looked for the third that would kill the game. Sinoda then saw a shot saved by Sampson on 43 and MacIan could only put the rebound header over the bar. 2-0 half time of a very even game.
The second half could not quite live up to the pace of the first half and the first chance did not come until the 65th minute, Sinoda heading over for Kirkbride. The Vikings had a set piece move on 74 but Strachan's header was saved. Papakostas then hit a post with a powerful effort on 77. Kirkbride had the games last chance but Symington could only hit his freekick directly at replacement keeper Lees.
Eaglesrjh said "Well a decent win with my youth keeper in goal, but fair play to Kirkbride they came and gave it a go! and whilst last match we were maybe unlucky to not come away with something then maybe this week we got 3 points that could easily have been 1"
