Totaalvoetbal enjoyed a 3-0 win over Tranmere in a game which ended up closer than the score-line suggests.
The home side made the visitors pay from their very first attack as Joe Urpani was booked for giving away a free-kick and Johan Juffing drove the ball into the net following a lay-off from Horacio Metelo.
Juffing was to go close again from a Metelo free-kick as he headed over when well-placed and it was Metelo himself who forced Larkin into an excellent stop from another set-piece opportunity.
Zack Whittall put through his own goal as Tranmere threatened to be over-run by an in-form home side. Barrere quickly went close with a long range strike before a Metelo penalty made it 3-0 on 31 minutes.
Amazingly, Tranmere then sprang into life before half-time. Joe Urpani sparked the revival with two efforts which caused concern amongst the home defenders while Victor Duvivier also forced Keizer into an acrobatic stop.
The second-half brought with it a physical edge to Rovers’ play and they saw yellow several times while also seeing Akinlabi Iwelumo hit the bar with a superbly lobbed header.
Despite their improved play they couldn’t find a way back into the game and the contest was also marred with late injuries to Metelo and Leroy Upson.
"We started like a house on fire." began Meeblind post-match.
"We won the game in the first half-hour and after that they were the better team.
“The injury to Metelo looks like keeping him out of our next game and that will be a blow but it’s another challenge to overcome and we’ll do our best.”
