West Brom Strollers are celebrating tonight after confirming their place in next seasons RM Invitational.
They stumbled over the finish line with clumsy 1-0 win over S.S.Manfredonia.Far from the free flowing football we've become accustomed to of late, Strollers produced a tense, nervous performance and at times were second best.
The only goal came in the 19th minute, Willie Johnston racing free of the defence before beating the keeper. Strollers then held out despite strong pressure from Manfredonia in the second half.
The travelling West Brom fans flooded on to the pitch at the final whistle to celebrate with their heros.
Manager Dinkydave commented after the match "Obviously i'm chuffed with the outcome, we've achieved what we set out to do at the start of the season. I don't want to take the shine off what we've achieved but i'm a little dissapointed with the performance tonight, but credit to our opponents, they've given us 2 very difficult matches this season and i wish them luck in their relegation battle"
In spite of Strollers performance 6 players made it into the X11 Williams, Statham, Brown, Godden, Taylor (c) and Moore made an unprecedented 19th appearance. Could he really go 22 games in the X11???
Strollers have the ideal opportunity to turn promotion into Champions as they face bottom club Goals Aloud at the Hawthorns in the next round. Where a win will se them crowned champions of Division 1.
Dinkydave signalled his intent for the remainder of the season "We've got 3 games left, against teams who are fighting relegation, we have to be fair to the other teams and remain professional. The tempataion is to rest players and not play those on 2 yellow cards but we've still got a division title to win so we wont be letting up"
