Grey Area produced a stunning performance to beat Alsancak F.C 4-1. In an open contest chances came thick and fast as both sides looked to attack the other’s defence. Alsancak were to strike first as early as the third minute when Niall Hedges latched onto a Max Jekyll pass to finish well. Grey Area are a different proposition under Carfin, though, and they played as though the goal never happened. A 41st minute equaliser from Roger Stride set them up for an excellent second-half display which left the visitors shell-shocked. Two goals in the first ten minutes after the restart laid the foundations as Sheldon Skiverton netted from distance before Garth Rossall shot home in the penalty area. Alsancak continued to play their part in an attractive game but couldn’t find the finishing skills to keep up with their hosts and the game was ended when Allan Bound rounded off a classic breakaway. The victory, which sees Grey Area up to ninth on 12 points, was greeted with satisfaction from Carfin who added ‘hopefully the start of a good weekend’ as he moves onto his other managerial responsibilities. Alsancak drop to third but Wienersnitzel will already be plotting his side’s revenge in the return meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
These Charming Men overtook Alsancak following their latest impressive performance under the tutelage of RDCM. TCM always looked to have an edge on wortley afc and were boosted by an early goal for Juan-Jose Galiano. They lost Jordi Rodri to injury but this didn’t stop them adding a second as Mauricio Capdevila beat Jenning from distance. The visitors did have sights of the TCM goal and managed to pull one back before half-time as Curt Pryor continued his rich vein of form in front of goal. Indeed, it was Pryor who would level matters on 55 minutes after despatching a corner delivered by Quincy Bowey. This proved their only effort on goal in the second-half, though, and TCM pushed for the winner. It eventually came on 76 minutes with Capdevila again proving the difference to cap a man-of-the-match display. TCM are now in second-place on the back of their win which is their sixth straight. Thegreatlordbags’ side drop to sixth but they are only one point from third as the season moves into the return fixtures.
Wandsworth FC recovered from dropping their first points of the season by edging out Northwich Victoria 1-0 at Victoria Stadium. Rowley Forrester scored the decisive goal on nine minutes as he struck a free-kick past Sigurdsen and into the net. The home side suffered niggling injuries to Erland Gullstrand and Vebjorn Gray as they struggled to find a way back into the encounter. With the better performances from both sides coming in the defensive areas of the pitch it came as no surprise that no more goals were scored. With 31 points gained from a possible 33 Wandsworth look guaranteed a promotion place already as the season enters the second-half. Northwich Victoria slip into tenth spot but have been competitive in most games this season, MadMagpie will, therefore, be hoping to get a few wins on the board quickly but will need to improve his side’s form to do so.
The Champs managed to take advantage of a game with manager-less Chelsea by moving up to fourth on the back of a 5-1 victory. With The Champs starting strongly the game was as good as over on 17 minutes as they took a 2-0 stranglehold. Bruce Collinge opened the scoring from a breakaway before Said Qahbadaik quickly added a second. Zachary Doughty made it 3-0 on 31 minutes with a shot after a corner before Chelsea managed to pull a goal back before half-time from the boot of Nigel Bassett. The second-half saw the visitors remain firmly in control and a brace from Robert Hammevik completed the rout with Chelsea losing Frank Lampard to a red-card late on. Wylie909 has manoeuvred his side into fourth spot, level on points with Alsancak in third, and will be confident of maintaining their push during the run-in. It is hard to see many positives for a Chelsea side awaiting their manager’s reappearance as they lose vital form in the meantime.
Glasgow City picked up their first win under their new name and manager as they defeated a beleaguered The Posh 5-0. In what turned out to be The Posh’s last match under the stewardship of Leeds-Fan they put in an inept performance in creating no chances while giving up 15 and once more chose not to pick substitutes which ultimately cost them a player as Rufus Guy suffered a serious injury. Glasgow, however, must be congratulated on a professional job which was started when Isak Bergendorff headed in after just a minute. Despite suffering a nasty injury to Edward Stoneley, Glasgow added further first-half goals courtesy of Denny Kallgren and Bergendorff’s second. The second-half was just as one-sided and if Glasgow had netted a few more of their openings a double-figure score could have been on the cards. As it was, a penalty by Izuki Ito and a header giving Kallgren his second of the game were all that was added to give a 5-0 final score. Glasgow City moved into fifth on the back of the win and are bang in contention while The Posh moved quickly to appoint MrJames as replacement for the disappointing Leeds-Fan.
Portsmouth found an excellent three points in a 1-0 away win at the Glory Hornets. The home side created the better openings during the contest but found Pompey ‘keeper Quentin Morgan to be in excellent form in goal. An early injury to Jonathon Draper set the tone for an ultimately disappointing opening half but the game picked up pace after the interval. When the Hornets found a way past the Portsmouth rearguard they came up against a brick-wall in Morgan and were to suffer frustration. Portsmouth found the winning goal when Wade Fairchild shot home in the penalty area on 79 minutes. Portsmouth went above their opponents following the game but with only one point separating the two there will be all to play for in the return match this coming week.
