Totaalvoetbal picked up three vital points by edging Hun Haters 2-1 courtesy of two late goals from midfield maestro Horacio Metelo.
Totaal set-up with just three midfield men as they looked to exploit the pace of their front-men van Diemen and Dyer.
Metelo tested Boruc with an early free-kick and Jimmy Meire also troubled his own ‘keeper as the home side made a fast start to the game. In contrast to this HH were trying to leave their mark in a different way with some hard challenges being put in, taking advantage of notoriously weak referee Hugh Cango being assigned to the game. An injury to Ike Dyer was the result of one tough challenge with the forward likely to be out of action until early May.
Hun Haters showed their quality by taking the lead with their only opportunity of the half as Iain Emery beat an exposed Keizer following good approach work from Finlay MacCleir.
The second-half saw the game open up as Totaal set about trying to get back into the game with HH always looking dangerous on the counter.
Hun Haters had a couple of chances to put the game to bed as the home side struggled to keep tabs on marauding midfielder Craig Elliston. He was to put an excellent volley too close to Keizer before cracking a superb free-kick against the bar as Totaal began to rock.
Ever since Totaal joined the RM Invitational, though, they have been able to rely upon the genius of Horacio Metelo to get them out of tough situations and once more he obliged with time running out. A free-kick given away in a dangerous area signalled the perfect opportunity for Metelo to crack a perfect shot past Boruc to bring parity back to the encounter.
Totaal managed to crank up the pressure following the equaliser and after Johan Juffing fired an effort just wide Metelo was given the chance to slot a penalty past Boruc to put the hosts 2-1 up.
Hun Haters did respond deep in injury-time but a driving shot by Prohazska unfortunately came back off the bar and the game was up for the visitors.
“I’m delighted with the win.” said Meeblind.
“They are always a tough team to play against and to be fair they’ve hit the woodwork twice and probably deserved a point. We’ll take the win, though, and move on.”
