Three Lions FC emerged victorious from a bloody match with West Brom Strollers on Friday to hand Strollers their first defeat of the season. Strollers struck first as Lee Hughes buried the ball past the keeper after a fine pass from Lawrie Cunningham. However, the visitors were horrified as Luca Tonizu and Zlatan Izuhimovic combined to penetrate right into the heart of the Strollers defence as the latter lobbed one over Scott Carson. It then got worse for the away side as Cunningham went off injured to be replaced by Robert Koren after he went in hard for a tackle. Nemanja Vidizuka showed more determination than Cunningham, however, as he opted to stay on despite being involved in a similar tackle minutes later.
After several bookings and other insignificant events, it was Izuhimovic who struck again to give the hosts a 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute, heading in a flashy overhead bicycle-kick cross from Nani from 7 yards. Nani then made sure of the points as he received a pass from Tonizu in the penalty area, turned, and smacked the ball into the bottom corner in the 78th minute.
"It was a good game and we're happy to get the points," said Izuka after the match before snapping back at Dinkydave after the Strollers manager's earlier comments. "We played dirty? Cunningham got himself injured going in for Vidizuka who was obviously their target to injure today. Sure they acted like they were playing careful, but I saw the venom they put into their rare tackles.
"Izuka also praised Izuhimovic for a wonderful performance. "Zlatan is a very technical player, much like Berbatov of Manchester United. He fully deserved his brace today," added the manager.
