Totaalvoetbal Crowned Champions

Totaalvoetbal came from behind to defeat EASTHAM FC 2-1 earlier today. Their result coupled with Yorkshires Amateurs' stunning 4-1 success at home to Hun Haters was enough to crown Totaalvoetbal RM Invitational Champions.

The home side got off to the worse possible start when Miquel Oriol headed into his own net after just six minutes.

With EASTHAM looking dangerous Totaal looked anything but champion material. However, a cool breakaway move saw Johan Juffing equalise after 25 minutes.

Just before half-time came the goal that would win Totaal their very first top division title. Horacio Metelo crossing beautifully for a superbly timed Shirsh Vajpayee header to beat Larkin.

Totaal were to be much improved after the break as they tightened up and still continued to make chances. They couldn't add to their lead, however, as they missed several chances including a Pierre van Diemen penalty.

It wasn't to matter as the celebrations began as word came through that Amateurs had conquered HH.

"What a performance from the boys this season." said Meeblind.

"They've gone unbeaten for a second season and that's a massive achievement.

"We looked shaky for a time today but again we've shown great belief and come from behind to get a result. We deserve this title."

Midfielder Abbas Erol was delighted to retire on a high,

"I've had two amazing seasons here at Totaal and ended up with a Championship medal. Dreams do come true. I leave with nothing but love for this club."

Horacio Metelo once again proved an inspiration,

"I delivered a couple of decent passes, that's all. The whole squad have worked hard for this success. We now enjoy it with a party or two."

An embarrassed Pierre van Diemen vowed to give up penalties after another miss threatened the victory,

"Metelo wanted to take it anyway. I think i've taken my last one for a while. Who cares though? We are champions!"

Indeed, a great ending to a great season for Totaalvoetbal.
