Goals Aloud stunned Santos FC with a wonderful performance at Estadio do Deus. Defeating the home side 4-1 they kept their slim hopes of avoiding relegation alive. In a very open game Goals Aloud were 2-0 up after 32 minutes. Trevor Fazackerley heading in before Dustin Digby poked home after a corner. Santos managed to get one back before half-time through Adriano Ribeiro but that was as good as it got for the Brazilians. Fazackerley added his second after 65 minutes and when Howard Harrell headed in after 80 minutes the game was settled. Goals Aloud will need to score plenty in defeating Joga and hope Juventus suffer defeat at Tropical Thunder to have any hope but the up-turn under Ocs18 has been remarkable. Ocs was quick to thank the fans for their "fantastic support." Despite the defeat Santos were confirmed as promoted as Newry City failed to win.
Three Lions FC were the team who ended Newry's promotion hopes with a welcome return to form. Luca Tonizu scored a breakaway goal before both sides suffered an injury at an important time of the season. Three Lions maintained their stranglehold on the game and sealed a deserved win when Tonizu added his second with time running out. Both sides will be looking to push for promotion next season after performing admirably during this.
Tropical Thunder had their relegation confirmed following a 1-1 draw with FC Joga Bonito. It was an encouraging performance by Thunder who more than matched their visitors for chances. Lauro Poggi had put the home side ahead before the magical Demetrio Delpiano equalised to ensure the teams would go in level at the interval. A late penalty miss by Geovany Dainelli proved costly as the home side surrendered their chance of winning the game and relegation was confirmed. News coming out of Thunder was upbeat however, "The season has been hard going for Thunder, but they now need to look at improving and ensuring that next season sees them return to the first division."
AFC Stanley remained at the top of the table and set up a title battle with F.C. Greatness after defeating Juventus 3-0 at Garden Street. An early penalty from Enrico Fuentes laid the foundation for the win and when he headed in a second after 58 minutes you sensed the game was up. The superb Garry Molseley added a third to ensure they would go into their big match in good form and spirits. Markham33 was seen on the forum showing his class by saying, "May the best team win."
Greatness warmed up for the game with a thumping win of their own over Leeds United. Fabrizio Colluato scored two quick breakaway goals to put them 2-0 up at the interval and with Leeds barely threatening you sensed the game was over. Paolo Serena added a third before Alvaro Recoba, deputising for Vahlstrom, hit an excellent free-kick as Leeds toiled. Experienced defender Bernardi spoke with local press after the game, "A great result for us, it was a must win game and we played good football."
