The top of division 2 is very tight with only 2 points seperating 4 clubs. Liverpool still find themselves in fourth place, on goal difference. With only3 games left to play one manager is going to be left heart broken at the end of the season while the other 3 will be celebrating and looking forward to playingdivision 1 football next season.
Liverpool had a home match against AJ Rovers. The away team where looking to dothe double over liverpool after beating them 2-0 in the reverse fixture. Buttonswas hoping for a little luck this week after losing a 91st minute goal to Real Madrid last time out.
The home team started the stronger with Albert Reira going close with a headerafter only 2 minutes but the AJ Rovers keeper made a easy save. Liverpool continued to press the home defence and where awarded a penalty in the 13th minute, up stepped Dirk Kuyt and he struck the ball into the back of the net to make the score 1-0 to liverpool.The away team had to reshuffle their team after 2 players where taken of injuried. Super sub Leigh Roberts brought AJ Rovers back into the game and leveled the score with his first touch of the ball.
The second half started as the game against Real Madrid had ended with liverpool having an other goal ruled out for offside. Javier Mascherano had the ball in net after breaking the offside trap or so he thought, again TV replys showed that the liverpool midfielderwas being played on by the AJ Rovers defence. Buttons took his protest to far this time and the referee sent him to the stand for the rest of the match.
Liverpool continued to hammer the AJ Rovers defence by having 58% of the possesion and 7 shots on target, The fans and the liverpool manager himself could see the promotion chances slipping away as the game went into the final 10 minutes. Robbie Keane had a very quiet game until he latched onto a Dirk Kuyt cross with 8 minutes to go. The ball wentn off the post 2-1 liverpool, the fans where going crazy. The final whistle blew and 3 points to the home team.
Liverpool promotion challengers had a mixed day Kirkbride Strollers where defeated by The Vikings and Man U beat Ripplenet United 3-1.

"The title and promotion places are going right down to the wire. We had a bit of luck today with Robbie Keane winner, but the linesman nearly spoil the day by ruling out a perfectly good goal for the second game running. We play Man U next time out and if we win we will take an other step to promotion"
