After withstanding a tough examination from in-form Joga Bonito, AFC Stanley remained at the head of the Division One standings going into the last three rounds of matches. Joga produced a good performance to pin Stanley back for long periods. Stanley, however, are made of stern stuff this season and showed their coolness in front of goal by taking their only chance of the game. Young forward Thorbjorn Lind goes from strength to strength and poached his tenth goal of the season when his instincts got him into space inside the area. To their credit, Joga never lost faith in what they were doing and got a deserved equaliser with time running out. Midfielder Oscar Cervantes making one more lung-bursting run into the area to get his head on a Delpiano cross and guide it past Hessbo for a share of the spoils. Joga manager Jimmy190 was disappointed with the point having seen his side have the best of the chances, "Yeah, I think promotion is out of the window for us now." he began before adding ominously, "Next season is the season."
Closing to within two points of Stanley are F.C. Greatness who defeated Goals Aloud despite a youthful looking line-up. Goalkeeper Iacomo Inzaghi was injured in the early stages which may badly effect his change report but his replacement, Fernao Rachao, was never seriously troubled. After a tight first-half with few chances Greatness turned the screw after the break. Enok Vahlstrom furthered his reputation by scoring a trademark free-kick to make it 1-0 shortly after the restart. The second goal came from his strike partner Martinus Benfari, who himself has enjoyed a good season with eight goals. Greatness were to remain in control and see out the match as 2-0 victors, a result that leaves Goals Aloud six points from safety. Manager Calvert was happy with his starlets after the victory, "I had to play the youngsters but they did the job."
Maintaining their rise up the table are Santos FC after a stunning 3-0 home win over Three Lions FC. Three Lions also suffered a major injury to Izuael Clichy close to the important end of season change. Santos attacked the visitors' goal throughout the game, creating a massive 14 chances. The game was won in a five-minute second-half period that saw Santos smash three goals past their reeling opponents. Asmar Golkas breaking the deadlock with a cracker after 64 minutes. Richardo Ferrari and Patricio Bento added two quickfire goals to give the scoreline a more realistic reflection of the game. Izuka was his usual self post-match, "There's gratitude for you, I give Santos a win and they injure my captain." Promotion now looks a tall ask for Three Lions but Santos may just have timed their run perfectly.
Their nearest challengers are Newry City after they battled to a 1-0 away win at Juventus. In a game of little excitement it was left until the 79th minute for Newry to settle the game. Antony Cowdrey picking the perfect time to score just his second goal of the campaign. The win sees Newry just three points from a promotion place and they can further narrow the gap by beating Greatness in their next match. Juventus, meanwhile, are now just two points above the dreaded drop zone and will need to pick up a win in their match-up with Leeds United to feel more secure.
Leeds United's first game under Steve7golding was clouded in controversy as Tropical Thunder manager Joejnr threatened to sue league admin RobinMeeblind for appointing new managers just before their upcoming fixtures, "RMB is one of the best managers out there, but he is running scared of Joejnr and trying to make sure they get relegated." commented a close friend. It was certainly an improved display from bottom of the table United and they took a surprise lead after 31 minutes through Micael Gylfason. Tropical Thunder were much more decisive after the break and goals from Roger Fernandez, Douglas Wallberg and Geovany Dainelli clinched an important three points for the visitors. The win revives Thunder hopes of avoiding relegation while admin Robin Meeblind wasn't available for comments regarding the accusations.
