Viking Land News
Vikings all but there!
Another tough game was had but the Vikings claimed a point and now need just one more point to secure promotion.
The Vikings thought they had taken an early lead in the 15th minute, Maladenis raced through to a Papakostas through ball and calmly slotted past the Bolton keeper. He was away to celebrate with the away fans before realising the linesmans flag was up. A dubious offside call that left manager Eaglesrjh exasperated at the side of the pitch as he'd been in line with play and clearly saw the player onside. Almandis then headed over for the Vikings on 20 as they pushed hard early on. The ref then further enraged Vikings boss Eaglesrjh in the 26th minute as he awarded a penalty for the most blatant dive you ever will see. Justice was done though as Raasch did brilliantly to save the resultant spotkick. Thankfully the ref could find no reason to stop the Vikings celebrating in the 30th minute as Tassiopoulos rose highest in the box to head home a wonderful Maladenis cross. 0-1 half time
It's fair to say Bolton came out as a different side in the second half. Atlee hit the crossbar on 47. Challis then hit a post with a 58th minute effort as he looked to make amends for his earlier weak penalty. A 59th minute set piece move then saw Collymore strike a post as the Vikings woodwork was rattled again. The Vikings goal frame was not the only one being tested as the woodwork denied Tassiopoulos a 2nd in the 63rd minute. Collymore then saw a 65th minute effort saved as Bolton pushed hard. Jukka then missed with a set piece shot in 68 in an increasingly rare Viking attack. Bolton then got the equaliser that their 2nd half play probably deserved as Challis curled a beautiful long range shot home in the 81st minute. Collymore then missed the goal in the 90th minute as Bolton looked to nick all 3 points. 1-1 full time
Vikings manager Eaglesrjh had this to say after the game. "Overall for the way Bolton played the second half you have to say they were worthy of a point but i'm frustrated by the quality of todays ref. We had a perfectly good goal ruled out and then a penalty awarded against us for a dive that would have been better placed in an olympic diving competiton! Ok it was well saved but still! Overall thogh a point a piece was probably fair and we now go into the last game knowing exactly what we must do. Any kind of positive result will see us go up and even in a worse case scenario as long as we lose by less than 3 I reckon we will still go up. I'm not into losing though and we will be going into the last game looking for the win as always!"
