Belly Tubbies 0 - 1 The Vikings

Viking Land News

Vikings secure a vital 3 points!

The Vikings secured 3 points in the promotion race with a tight win away at relegation threatened Belly Tubbies.

It took 25 minutes before the first chance was created. Trevor Steven headed wide for Belly Tubbies. Lind then showed him how to head the ball home in the 32nd minute. Crouch got wide and crossed in and recent signing Lind was on hand to head home well. William Ralph Dean then slipped his man long enough to get a 34th minute chip at goal but it went just over the bar with Raasch looking on in the Vikings goal. Lind then had another headed chance on 37 but Fitzsimmons dealt with it easily. 0-1 half time

The second half ended up as a one sided affair as the Vikings ran the game. Lind was getting into space well and saw a 59th minute header scrape the bar. Tassiopoulos then clipped a post with a clever effort on 77 as the Vikings defended well and broke forward when chances were there to do it. Lind again missed with a header on 83 before Almandis hammered the bar with a 86th minute freekick. Belly Tubbies had been out of the game in the second half and their misery was compounded when Defender Higgins was injured in a tackle with Milic which saw the Vikings defender pick up a booking. 0-1 full time.

Eaglesrjh could barely contain his excitement after the game. "This was always going to be a tricky away day fixture and we are very pleased to come away with 3 points. The whole team worked well, we created chances and stopped them getting a shot on target at all at the other end." Other results see the scrap for promotion really tight and Fridays game against Kirkbride could be a season breaker for one team. However we go in to that match with good confidence and form having won our last 3 and will look to gain another 3 points here."

"All in all it's an exciting time for the club and we hope to cope with the pressure!"
