Wiltshire Warriors put together a scintillating attacking performance to defeat Worley afc 4-2 at The Fortress. They had to come from behind to do so, though, as, after missing chances through Robert Merson and Craig Elliott in the opening 21 minutes, they conceded to a looping header from Quincy Bowey. Brandon Hiller tried to extend the lead but he would fail and Wiltshire hit back strongly. Two quick headers, one each from Dante de Matteo and Merson, would turn the game around in the space of a couple of minutes. Merson would be somewhat fortunate not to direct the ball past his own ‘keeper moments later as wortley attempted to strike back; they would also miss again through Hiller. However, the final word of the half belonged to Elliott who smacked the woodwork with a super free-kick as the Warriors ended on the front foot. The sides traded early chances at the start of the second-half as Merson and Hiller saw headed chances go begging. Wiltshire would then net a crucial third goal as Jack Balshaw took the ball expertly round Jenning to complete a fine breakaway move. With the Warriors rampant a fourth goal followed quickly with Merson heading in his second of an eventful evening. To their credit, wortley managed to pull a goal back with a calm side-footed finish from Bowey but it would be the hosts who would finish the stronger. Elliott and Bruce Haggart might both have added to the goal tally but Wiltshire will have been more than happy with a 4-2 success. Big K will have been delighted with his side’s first victory of the season after seeing his side draw their opening three. Thegreatlordbags will be keen for his side not to dwell on this defeat as, they too, have had a good start to the new season.
Carthage FC moved back to the top of the table with a highly competitive 2-1 victory over Dream Team. The hosts would enjoy the first chance of the day but Ad Herbal could only shoot wide when in a good position. Dream Team would signal their attacking intent for the day also with a Milorad Gavrancic effort hitting the post. It would be Carthage who would strike first, though. After going close through Rhys Gregson they flighted a lovely free-kick onto the head of Quincy Lansbury who made no mistake in dispatching it into the net. The visitors would attempt to hit back as the match continued to see-saw but Siligradi couldn’t find the net with his shot. They would strike with their first effort of the second-half as Gavrancic lobbed a header home. Carthage didn’t let this goal affect them and would also score with their first sight of goal; Gregson firing in from distance to score a goal worthy of winning any game. Warren Dillin and Dudley Barrowcliff would go close to grabbing an equaliser for the visitors; Barrowcliff being very unfortunate with a free-kick which struck a post. They would ultimately fall short in their quest for a point which left Carthage sitting pretty at the end of Round Four. While the current table will please Blakey he will drill into his side that no prizes are awarded at this early stage and there is a long season ahead of them. The defeat is MrJames’ first of the season but he will know that the margin between victory and defeat in this game was very thin.
The Champs moved into early season contention with a comfortable win over the now manager-less Spartans. The home side would take advantage of the crisis surrounding Spartans by scoring in the very first minute with a Leigh Ellefson header. They went close through Anibal Felix before adding a second goal on 22 minutes. It would be Ellefson again as he showed his prowess from distance to leave Jorquera stranded in goal. The Champs would effectively seal the win inside the first-half as Daley Higson followed Ellefson’s lead by netting from distance. The second-half saw the hosts sit on their 3-0 lead and created no further chances. They nullified the threat at the other end, though, as only a Klaas-Jan Huntelaar shot came anywhere near breaking the Spartans duck. Both sides suffered injuries but it would be the Spartans who would feel them most as they look ahead to life without their manager. Wylie909 will have been pleased with his side’s ruthless streak and, after an opening four games which has included two wins and two draws, he will look ahead optimistically to the rest of the season.
Grey Area produced an excellent away performance to raid Morley with a 2-0 win. The sides both showed an attacking intent in the opening 10 minutes as Allan Bound went close for the visitors before Adolf Munzberg did likewise at the other end from a free-kick. Area would make the most of their next chance, though, as Geoffrey Stiles headed in with some style following a telling centre by Garth Rossall. The lead was quickly doubled and it proved to be some strike from Calvino Baraja from a set-piece opportunity. The home side would finish the half in the ascendency and Florian Arnautu and Angres Kafka would have half chances. Despite this improvement in their play they would go in 2-0 behind and with it all to do. However, Morley could not replicate their upturn in play after the interval and would find themselves stifled by the visitors. Area won’t have been pleased with injuries to Stigsson and Kerrigan but will have been more than happy with the way they closed the game out. Indeed, they might have added further goals as Geoffrey Stiles missed a lob and Rossall came within the width of a post late on. Despite the win the club was thrown into turmoil as Carfin announced his intention to leave after being offered an opportunity elsewhere. Leeg21, meanwhile, will want his to forget about this defeat quickly as they travel to Glory Hornets on Tuesday.
Glory Hornets will have put a smile on GregPerkins’ face with a 2-1 home victory over Southampton. It was the visitors who made the more progressive start and Duncan Graeme and Benos Hardinho might have given them the lead with more composed finishing. Seth Eaves briefly responded for the home side but it was to be the visitors who would take a deserved lead. The goal came courtesy of a perfectly placed header by Sonny Baron as the forward managed to ghost between defenders to create himself enough room. They would hold this lead until the break but it was a more determined Hornets side who would re-emerge after the interval. Toma Popadic immediately fired in a warning from a free-kick before Dale Lansbury equalised with a powerful shot on goal with an hour gone. They would complete the turnaround fifteen minutes later as Popadic made another set-piece count with a thumping effort. He had a chance to add a third goal moments later but Raberg was equal to it and the ‘keeper also had to be alert to stop a Paolo Ballotta fire-cracker. Benos Hardinho missed a late chance to equalise as the Saints slipped to a disappointing loss. The win will have come as a pleasant surprise for Perkins who had asked his side ‘to stand up and be counted.’ Meanwhile, NorthamSoul declared himself ‘very very fed up’ following another narrow defeat.
Cullin Lava made it two wins on the bounce with an emphatic 4-0 home victory over Alsancak. They had to withstand a couple of early chances as Andrew Taylor fired in a free-kick for the visitors and Eoghan Millar missed a header but they asserted themselves from this point on. Humberto Sobrinho went close with one effort before firing home in the penalty area on 27 minutes. They continued to force the pace for the rest of the half but couldn’t add to their lead despite efforts from Gabriel Amor and Ivo Daniel. However, they would get their reward during a brilliant second-half performance. Hilario Tostao was to fire in a long range shot on 55 minutes to double the advantage and swiftly made it 3-0 by rounding the ‘keeper with a clinical finish. Gabriel Amor got in on the act with a pinpoint lob shortly thereafter and the game was up for the visitors. Further chances came but Tostao and Daniel couldn’t make the evening any more miserable for Alsancak. Kevll7 now has his side moving in the right direction following a tough baptism and will hope his troops can keep it going in the coming weeks. Wienersnitzel knows it will be a case of ups and downs as he moulds a young side and as long as the players learn from their defeats they should be in good order in a season or two.
