Vikings get expected win over young St Omer side
The Vikings won this match as expected as St Omer still suffer from the average age rule.
The Vikings took the opportunity to give some match experience to some young players and some fringe players.
Papakostas opened the scoring in the 7th minute as he rose high above the defence to head home a cross from Tassiopoulos. It was essentially the same route that led to the secong goal in 29 minutes. This time it was Branston who crossed the ball in and again Papakostas was too good for the away defence and powered the header home. Papakostas then completed a first half hattrick as young forward Tolley laid the ball off just outside the box and Papakostas curled the ball home with style! Papakostas looked too hot to handle for the young St Omer defence and was unlucky not to get a 4th goal in 36 minutes when he saw his header tapped over by the keeper. St Omer then converted their only chance of the game. They were awarded a 43rd minute penalty that midfielder Cony Tottee slotted home with ease. 3-1 half time with the Vikings in good control
The second half was a quiet affair. Tolley made it 4 in the 55th minute as he headed home a Maladenis cross. There were to be no other chances for either team as the Vikings were content to preserve energy and just play keep ball football. 4-1 full time
Eaglesrjh had this to say after the game. "Well it was a comfortable win with a lot of youngsters and reserves in the team. I've no doubt we could have won by more with the full first team out but I am happy that I got the balance right between winning the game in style and giving match experience to fringe players. However a couple of players took the opportunity today to play their way back into my thinking, Papakostas was especially impressive and has given me a selection dilemma for the next game!"
"Still it's a good problem to have" laughed the manager!
