Totaalvoetbal paid the price for early missed chances as they succumbed to a late penalty at Three Lions FC.
The Lions opened with an early set-piece opportunity which resulted in Rex Rimmer catching the ball from a Zlatan Izuhimovic header.
Following a lull in proceedings, Totaalvoetbal exploded into action to create three chances before the half-time whistle.
Horacio Metelo had the opening chance but his free-kick went centimetres wide with the ‘keeper appearing to be beaten.
However, if Casillas was struggling to get to that one he was in fine form to stop a Pierre van Diemen header and was also well-positioned to watch Edwin Hayter fire wide from a tight angle.
This was as good as Totaal could muster on this particular day and the Lions came out to dominate them during the second-half.
Their opening chance of the half came from a Luca Tonizu free-kick but he found Rimmer to be in fine fettle between the sticks.
A precise header by Izu Kaka missed the goal by millimetres before the game had its dramatic conclusion. Alexis Barrere had what only can be described as a brain-freeze and put in a clumsy challenge which left Donald Scott with no alternative but to point at the spot. Casillas wasted no time in running up from the back to take the penalty and made no mistake.
Totaal boss Robin Meeblind was a frustrated man at the final whistle.
“I think it would have been a much different story if we had taken one of our first-half chances,” he opened.
“However, we didn’t and the Lions dominated us in the second-half. It was an excellent victory for them and I wish them the best for the rest of the season.”
