Cro-what A Game!

Croatian veteran striker Toma Popadic curled home one of his trademark free-kicks to earn Glory Hornets their first 3 points of the season, after a hard-earmed 2-1 victory against Southampton FC.

Hornets' boss Greg Perkins cut a distinctly exasparated figure as he watched his side deservedly fall behind under an early Southampton onslaught, despite his pre-match call-to-arms. However the half-time hairdryer treatment clearly worked, and it was two of his veterans that were instrumental in gaining the upper hand.

Perkins' first Hornets acquisition and man-of-the-match Paolo Ballotta (32) teed up promising forward Dale Lansbury on the hour. Then the last signing of the old regime, Popadic (33), curled home one of his specials to claim victory for his new boss, who was visibly lifted after the game.

"Now I'm starting to see who's up for the challenge, and where we need strengthening," Perkins beamed, "and I'm fast realising I can't just shoe-horn any squad into my standard tactics. Unfortunately, I'll need time and money before I can start to really get the team going."

Tragically for the Hornets boss, he has little of either if this season is to be anything other than a battle to stay off the bottom.
